AVC-HD editing

Post by Zelmo »

Greetings again!

VS-10 doesn't support this video format currently. I sent Ulead a quick question about future support, and the reply indicated that VS-11 would include this. Great!

Now the question is, does anyone know "about" when Ulead plans to release VS-11? As mentioned in the previous post, my Panasonic SD1 uses this format, and I can't edit in the mean time.

I know that MovieStudio supports it, but I don't want to mess around with a temporary solution.

Thanks,

The past 2 or 3 years a new version has been released in March or April. If you take a look at this post regarding the PhotoImpact contest you will see that VS11 is one of the prizes, so I think the release is imminent.

Do you mean MovieFactory 6 Plus?
If yes then I don't understand why your saying this is a temporary solution.

While I know what you meant to say, I would certainly not call MF6+ a "temporary solution". A lot of people use it as their only editing and authoring software...

Certainly its editing capabilities have greatly improved in the last couple of versions. In a way, I expect that as the Corel/InterVideo takeover bites and some Ulead programs (such as DVD Workshop and Media Studio Pro) are sacrificed, that we are likely to see MF in effect take the place of Video Studio as the lower end editing/authoring package, and also substitute for DVD Workshop; while Video Studio would act as an 'almost' substitute for Media Studio Pro... at least in the minds of the developers.

I did mean MovieFactory 6+, not "MovieStudio." My mistake here, I just remembered it wrong when I wrote the note.

Also, I meant no disrespect when I used the term "temporary." I skipped a few thoughts there for the sake of brevity. The full explanation should have read: I sent Ulead a quick note asking about future plans for AVC-HD compatibility, and their response was "it will be in VS-11. Meanwhile, you can download a trial version of MS6 (which already supports AVC-HD) and use that to convert the AVC files to MPEG, then do your editing in VS-10).

So, for me, THAT would have been a "temporary" solution only because I would like to stick with VS-x for my editing program.

Again, apologies if I unintentionally offended anyone with my poorly-worded question.

Don't worry. No offence was taken at all! I merely wanted to say that MF6+ is a great program in its own right...

I regularly use both VS10+ and MF in any one project. Each does certain things better than the other. MF is clearly better at DVD authoring -- and definitely on slideshows -- while VS is a better editor. And of course, at the moment, from your own point of view, MF has the singular advantage of being able to handle AVCHD video.

So don't feel bad about using more than one program on your project. I always use at least 3 different programs, and sometimes more than that. The end result is what is important, not how many programs it takes to achieve it...
