Hello All,
Please excuse yet more ignorance from a Newbie! I have a couple of questions really. I am using MF3 without the update and I'min PAL land!
1. Can anyone reccomend a good bitrate for a 2 hour VHS conversion and fit it onto single layer disc?
2. The other option is to encose at 7000 and import into DVD shrink but it wont except MPEG files onlly TS. When i try to burn to Disc in DVD folder (TS) format it takes aaaaaaaggggggesssss.....like an hour! is this normal???
3. When you go to the capture screen after you've selected the little video camera, you set the quality and the duration. But there is no way of knowing how big the file size is before you burn it.
4. OK 1 more question are any of the issues above solved by updgrading to MF4 or using other ULEAD software. All i'm doing is copying my VHS tapes to DVD and creating menus, I'm not doing any real editing.
Thansk in advance and I look forward to you expert responses!

Re: TS Files and Bitrate
Well, I burn my DVD at 3 hour/DVD and use Max VBR 3200. For VHS conversion that is more than adaquate. VHS quality even at SP mode is much lower than the DVD quality.HP1 wrote:Hello All,

An hour is not unusual. In fact it can take much longer if DMF needed to re-render the project, like if the project settings don't match the source material.HP1 wrote: 2. Can't answer this because I haven't done capturing.HP1 wrote:

I'm reluctant to updgrade because of issues I've had upgrading the DL patch version of DMF3.HP1 wrote: 4. Re: TS Files and Bitrate
For 2 hours video on a single layer DVD, you can set the bitrate to 2500 kbps (which is the SP mode in DVD MovieFactory).HP1 wrote:1. Can anyone reccomend a good bitrate for a 2 hour VHS conversion and fit it onto single layer disc?
I think SciFiFan answered this question.HP1 wrote:2. The other option is to encose at 7000 and import into DVD shrink but it wont except MPEG files onlly TS. When i try to burn to Disc in DVD folder (TS) format it takes aaaaaaaggggggesssss.....like an hour! is this normal???
After you capture the video, click on OK to return to the ADD/EDIT MEDIA stage in DVD MovieFactory, you can click on the captured clip and then click on the Show Media Clip Information to know its file size and properties.HP1 wrote:3. Is this what you want?
I think both DVDMF 3 and DVDMF 4 can do the VHS to DVD job.HP1 wrote:4. OK 1 more question are any of the issues above solved by updgrading to MF4 or using other ULEAD software. All i'm doing is copying my VHS tapes to DVD and creating menus, I'm not doing any real editing.

Hi all.
Thanks for the replys.
The vid i recorded at good qual and loaded into DVD shrink came out well. It just took ages to encode the TS files.
It would be useful to know what size the file will be BEFORE the capture takes places so you can experiment with different bit rates and see what the file size will be.
Can this be done?..

In the DVD Tweak and Fit module of the new DVDMF 4 you will see an meter bar on the bottom of the program to show the estimated ripped size.
And you can type the DVD folder size you wish the DVD to be ripped and then the program will automatically adjust the bitrate for you.
Hope this helps.
