My newly purchased DV camcorder is a Canon MVX430 (=Elura 100). I am an old hand with VideoStudio.
My question is: Has anyone experienced an incompatibility of a miniDV camcorder brand or model with VideoStudio capture? This model seems to develop indigestion during capture.
The MVX430 shows up as an imaging device and can be controlled via VS capture controls. However VS10+ freezes after an interval of 5-20 minutes (1-4Gb) of capture. Also the number of dropped frames is significant (up to 140 at 20 mins). I tried VS8 with the same result.
However switching the same tape to my old Panasonic DV NVDA1 produces a perfect capture with zero dropped frames after 1 hour.
I was thinking perhaps the Canon is slightly incompatible with the Microsoft drivers (XP SP2) while the Panasonic is fine.
But get this: capturing from the Canon in Movie Maker to DV AVI worked okay (frames dropped unknown).
Would this Canon camcorder be incompatible with VS??
VS details:
Device = Canon MSDV
Device control = MS 1394
Capture format = DV type 1
Capture plug-in = Ulead Direct Show
Computer specs are more than adequate.
Thanks,
Greg

Cannon Elura 100 not supported
I have the same problem. My new Cannon Elura 100 is not supported. I capture with SceneAnalyzer which has no problems with my new camera. I did not have to update SceneAnalyzer. I believe this is a ULEAD problem. Hope they fix in the future.

I agree with you, it is a Ulead problem. I submitted a query to Ulead technical help but have yet to receive a reply. Capturing from analog tapes direct to disk using DV-in also fails after a short time. Very disappointing.
I will look at SceneAnalyzer. Another capture program recommended by users in this forum is WinDV.

Have either of you tried capturing using a different program? If you do a Google search, you will find a free small program called WinDV. It specialises in capturing in DV format from a DV camcorder, and does the job well. (I note that one of you has at least successfully captured using Movie Maker.)
Try that, and if it works, then the finger of blame can be pointed more firmly at VS10.

I've successfully captured hours of DV footage from an Elura 100. I've used VS10's capture program, MSP8's capture program, and several other capture programs at different times. I'm running WinXP Home SP2 on a P4 3ghz machine.
One thing to make sure of -- in VS10 the capture folder should exist. If it does not, a little popup message comes up to indicate that it does not exist -- maybe that's when it doesn't capture anything (I'm not sure, because I always capture to a specific folder that I know exists)
Regards,
George

Dear Ken & George,
Today I did a successful 40 minute capture from the Canon using WinDV, with no dropped frames. This confirmed the earler test using Movie Maker.
So what are we are left with?
Canon camcorder is ok
Firewire card is ok
Firewire cable is ok
Ulead VS10+ and VS8 are not ok with the Canon
An odd problem. The Canon Elura 100 model (or equivalent) doesn't seem to work with VideoStudio for a small number of users perhaps. However WinDV is a nice alternative.
