no video capture

Post by jinserra »

New digital video guy here. Own a Panasonic Digital Video Camcorder (PV-GS36) and acquired ULead Video Studio 9.0SE along with a Firewire Card (StarTech) that claims to be compliant with IEEE-1394, 1394a and iLINK.

I just used the camcorder for the first time (filled the tape), then installed the VS9.0, and immediately plugged my camera into the FireWire port and attempted to capture video. I received the error message below:
"Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected."

I've searched the KB and other posts to no avail. I appreciate the help.

Hi John first step will be to check that your 1394 card is installed OK.
Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>hardware>Device Manager>

(a) click-Display Adapter (Tell us what your Graphics card is).

(b) clk - IEEE 1394 Bus Controller (See if there is a Yellow ? or ! mark there)
Do the same for Sound Video & Game Controller and System Devices.

OK Now lets see if it's Ulead at fault.
Windows has it's own Video Editor;
Connect up your Camera Start > Programmes > 'Windows Movie Maker' Go into File > Capture Video and see if your Camera is listed. If it is try a short capture.

Was the camcorder already on when you plugged in the firewire cable? Did you try turning the camera off, then back on again?
