Particle plugin

Post by Dana »

I am using Paint Shop Pro 7.04 (XP SP2)
and cannot get the particle plugin to work.
It is in the effects column - but when I click on it this message appears, "unable to load particle.dll"
I have checked and have this .dll file installed in Windows, System 32 and System folders. I also have these .dll's installed -- Msvcrt.10.dll and plugin.dll.

All my other plugins work - but not this one.
Please help. Thanks.

Is particle.dll also in this folder?
C:\Program Files\Ulead Particle.Plugin\

Thanks for your reply Robert -- yes it is that folder too.

Perhaps try uninstalling Particle.Plugin, and reinstalling it.

When you're at the stage in the installation where it asks for the location of the Photoshop-compatible plugin folder, browse to:
C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 7\Plugins

I have the same version of PSP, and have no troubles with using Particle.Plugin... However, I installed Particle.Plugin to Photoshop 5.5's Plug-In folder. It should work either way, though.

Well - I have uninstalled and reinstalled following your direction and I still get the same message. :(

I'm stuck for any more bright ideas at this point...

Anyone else care to chime in here?

Thanks Robert for trying to help.
I also tried email support and or tech support but cannot cause it's not a registered program.
Just did a scandisk and virus scan too for good measure.
Still no go. :(

It's a freebie, so there is no tech support, unfortunately.

Just in case... What anti-virus and firewall software do you use? Do they have any features that keep an eye on suspicious program behaviour?

Am using Kaspersky AV and have a router.
Funny thing is I was using all the same stuff on my older computer.
Now that I have a new one - it does not work.
Also on the old setup I had Ulead animation gif and Photoshop installed.
This time - I do not.

I'd be tempted to uninstall Particle.Plugin, then install Photoshop... Then reinstall Particle.Plugin, using Photoshop as the plug-in folder to use. That assumes you still have the installation program for Photoshop, of course.

Unless anyone else has a brighter idea...

LOL -- but I really don't want to install PhotoShop.
It's a very large program and I just would never use it.
Can do most with PSP.
I guess - I just have to resign myself that I cannot use this plugin.
