Getting the following error message when trying to capture from my Sony DCR-TRV17:
"Unable to switch to Capture Mode.
Check if your video capture driver is working properly.
Failed to build a preview graph."
I'm using a trial version of VideoStudio 10. Will the Vista Patch or SP patch fix this? Is there anyway to try the patch on the trial version. I'd like to know if this will work before I pull the trigger. I've used the same camera successfully using VideoStudio version 5, 6, and 7 running on Windows 2000.
I am able to capture video using the build in video software with Vista.
Unable to switch to Capture Mode.

Unfortunately the TBYB versions do not seem to install or work correctly on Vista yet. Some have managed to get it installed, and yet others (more) have had problems. The patch will not install to the TBYB. I think it is going to be awhile yet before everyone has their applications developed to work well with Vista.

But you won't get any money back from a free version.I'm using a trial version of VideoStudio 10.

Yes, my camera is connected to my comptuer via firewire. I'm able to use Microsoft Vista's video capture software no problem, converting the video to WMV format. It even breaks it up by scenes like VideoStudio.
I can then take those video files and import it into VideoStudio and work with them, but I prefer to work within VideoStudio.

I haven't yet explored Vista's new Movie Maker. But does it, like its XP predecessors, allow capture in DV format, as well as WMV? If not, that would be sad. If you could capture in DV and then edit in Video Studio, at least it would avoid the difficulty of dealing with highly compressed WMV...
