Problems with Rolling Credits

Post by Clark77042 »

I am doing an hour long video and have approximately 4 minutes worth of rolling credits. My problem is overlapping, since the credits are so long I need to make 4 PNG files with a blue background and 34 point Arial text. The problem is at the overlapping point. The PNG files are 704 pixels wide and 1440 pixels long which I put together with picture editing software. At a certain point the text will not appear on the screen on the bottom and will disappear on the top. The limitation is with the moving path. The photo cannot be longer then 4096 pixels and the moving path goes from minus -576 pixels to 1152 pixels so making one long PNG file is out of the question. If you have a recommendation on how to resolve this issue please let me know. The problem first appears at 57 seconds and then at 1:47. The text disappears on the top at 1:09 and then at 1:57. It also has a creeping problem at 2:35 which I will fix by making the moving path at equal lengths.
Help with this would be most appreciated.

Clark,

Attached is the rolling credit which is on Youtube.com

My first remark is the obvious one. No one reads credits as long as that! :? :?

There are several ways of obviating the problems. One is to use two columns which would half the problem and another is to use a small typeface: half the font size would half the problem again. As no one reads them, it doesn't matter if they are really legible or not, but 18 points are legible.

Another way is to have a colour clip of the same colour as background on your first track and have gaps between each image on your second track - you can put the cast on the first, for example, the technical team on the second and so on, so the gap would not be obtrusive. With a blurred mask, you can then add an overlay that would keep your credits visible only in the centre half of the screen and fade them in from the bottom and out at the top. This would look pretty seamless. It would be important to keep the rolling speed constant. This would mean that each image must have identical size and MP attributes and be stretched to the same length on the timeline.

Tell the client that no one reads credits for 4 minutes!

I think the people who were in the video will watch there own credits for 4 minutes.

The other thing they didn¡¦t want me to do was put information bars during there speeches, folks in Houston tend to channel surf, and since this is going on a public access channel and there are no information bars and this video is boring no one is going to watch it except for the people in the video.

Thank you for the advice. I will put it at 18 point type which will resolve another problem with the credits and blur the mask, not sure how to do that though. I will send you the end result.
