Can't create DVDs with DMF3DC DL update

Post by SciFiFan »

Hi Guys,

Has anyone out there installed the dmf3_patch_dl_e.exe updates? If so, have you had any issues with the version?

When I install them on my system, I have NEVER been able to create a good DVD. The problem occurs when I have JOINed scenes. Most of the time, the program will abort sometime after I start the Output process with an access violation. I've been working with Ulead support but they've not been able to solve my problems yet.

I'm trying to get a feel if the problems are unique to my setup or not. I have a pretty specific work flow that works for what I'm doing, saving TV series episodes. This process works pretty well with the 'E' patch version (dmf3_patch_e.exe), plus some setting changes in the DMF.INI file.

My basic work flow is as follows:

1. Record from my DirecTV TiVo to my Sony DVD recorder in DVD-RW VR format via a S-Video connection.
2. Use the 'A-B Erase' function to edit out the commercials.
3. Import the DVD into DMF. Each segment gets imported as a mpg file.
4. Trim the beginning and end of each scene, if needed.
5. Join scenes into Titles, one Title for each episode. I get 4 episodes on each DVD using a Max VBR 3200 kbps.
6. Create chapters and menus.
7. Output resulting DVD to my HDD.
8. Use the Copy disk image to burn to a DVD.

With the DL patch Most of the time the program will abort in step 7.

Anyone else had better luck with the DL patch?

Thanks,
Ready2Retire

I have the same problem.

I have almost the exact same problem. Copying from my Philips created DVD-VR, after editing the clips and menus, when I try to write the DVD, the system appears to be working well until at a random point, almost all activity seems to stop. I didn't correlate it to the DL update, but I'll try to do one without the dl update and see if it fixes.

Let me know if you find a fix and I'll do the same.

I have a similar problem, but it also occurs with only the first update installed...and continues after the dll update. It is usually
during the output phase as well and is random. If the mpg files haven't been edited, there is less of a chance of the violation. Some files are ok, even if they have been edited. I wish I knew what it was that triggered the access violation, but I can't put my finger on it. It must be some kind of file corruption due to the editing, but why it happens with some files and not others, I cannot determine.

I have WinXP Home with SP2. Do you also have SP2? I'm wondering if the service pack makes a difference.

I've emailed tech support but gotten no reply. Will let the board know if I hear anything from ULead.

I was able to do some more testing last night. I reinstalled a fresh copy from the CD, without updates and was able to edit clips and write a final full DVD in about 90 minutes.

After installing the update (non-DL). The problem returned. It would start to process (much faster than before), but would only get through the first 1/4 to 1/3 progress when it would return me to the main menu. I tried this multiple times with the same result.

After the DL update, it would just stop, with minimal disk activity until I reset it when I got up this morning.

This happened on two computers, one a P4 3GHz, and the other a 2.6+ AMD Athlon XP. Both running Windows 2000 with all updates current.

Hi,

On my system when I join the clips the same error occurs whenever
the source audio and target audio were AC-3 audio 2/0.

If my source files are AC-3 from a recorder and I change the
"Project Properties" to mpeg audio the error disappears.

I also have SP2. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with SP2.

I've gone through a couple cycles with Ulead Support and they haven't been much help. The last time they told me to reinstall, updated the burning engine and replace a couple DLL files. I was on vacation for two weeks and apparently the trouble ticket expired so I have to start all over again :x

Replacing the DLL files broke it in a different way. It seemed to have problems reading from the DVD when I import from my VR mode disks. The only thing I've found that works is to install the full Base version and the 'E' patch ONLY.

SciFiFan,

How big are the files you are having trouble importing?
Are they over 2gigs? Sometimes that can be a problem because
of file size limitations (I don't mean the harddisk fat32/ntfs thing).
It has to do with udf/iso files on a dvd.

I have been able to import from my sony recorder(same as yours)
from the original release of MF3 and also with the updates
installed.
Maximum file size I've imported with MF3 was 4.3 gig.
