Unbelievable Bugs in WinDVD 8 Platinum on Windows Vista!!!

Post by bloodygod »

Hello Ulead!

I buyed an German Version of WinDVD 8 Platinum with serial number. Then I installed the product from CD on Windows Vista Home Premium.

First Bug: After the installation i have to close the setup window manually with the "x" button.

Then I upgrated WinDVD to Version 8.0.6.109.
Second Bug: I have to force admin rights by right klick on exe otherwise update installation fails.

I rebooted the pc.
Third Bug: After reboot, Windows blocks autostart application "Installshield Update for Macrovision".

Next I tried to use the Trimension feature. I configured "Deinterlace" to "Force wave" and klicked while playing an DVD on the "Off" Button to enable TrimensionDNM.
Fouth Bug: WinDVD don't work any longer!!! Vista shows failure window "WinDVD MFC Application don't work".

EDIT: Sixth Bug: When I click on "Preferences" WinDVD 8 do not find WinDVD7Default.htm! Unbelievable...

EDIT2: Seventh Bug: When I click on "solution center" WinDVD 8 do not find ...Default_cross_Promotio...! Unbelievable...

What have i buyed here!? This WinDVD 8 is useless for me...

When will this evil bugs be fixed???? I want to watch DVDs with Trimension enabled on Windows Vista now!!!

Kind regards

Well, try to install it on an XP machine and you might find your biggest "bug" is VISTA. Welcome to the 'WOW" experience.

Hello heinz-oz,

This don't help me. I don't want to buy an Windows XP license, too! Vista is an totally other OS and not at all compatible to Windows XP software.

Many application software works under Vista while the manufacturer edited his software. Ulead have to do here the work!

I agree, Ulead have to to their part and so does Intervideo and many others but, until they do there is no point crying for fixes to problems which were known before. If you want to use this program, wait for the VISTA patch. If you can't or won't wait, get something that works but do your homework before because not many consumer level programs work with Vista yet.

@sjj1805: How should this FAQ help? I think you don't understand the problems which exists when you wan't to upgrade an buyed WinDVD 8 CD Version with product key to the newest Download-Version... was this ever testet from the developers? I don't think so.

I testet the same procedure on a fresh Windows XP installation. The upgrade from the buyed CD Version to the newest Download (Trial) Version don't work!!

There was an error at the end of the installation process: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: DWUS_Bootstrap.C3A146F5_4B48_11D5_A819_00B0D0428C0C, location: C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\InstallShield\UpdateService\, command: C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\InstallShield\UpdateService\ISUSPM.exe -bootstrap"

I think the exe is ok, i downloaded it 2 times. And I can install it on an clean windows installation. (Only upgrade fails).

So I had to install only the downloaded Trial Version!! But I buyed the Product and wan't to use it without time limit!!

Question: Can I change the CD serial number to an Activation Code, so I could install only the download Version and do not have to upgrade my buyed CD Version?

Hi,

Maybe InterVideo....Never mind.
bloodygod wrote:First Bug: After the installation i have to close the setup window manually with the "x" button.
When you do a clean reinstall of WinDVD, remember to remove the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) first in Control Panel->Add/Remove Program. Or run the .msi file to install WinDVD 8, not the Setup.exe.

I guess it's not. To update a product to an newer version is an administrative work, I think it's reasonable to force you to use the admin rights.
bloodygod wrote:I rebooted the pc.
Third Bug: After reboot, Windows blocks autostart application "Installshield Update for Macrovision".
I believe you could unblock it in Control Panel->Windows Firewall.

Fouth Bug: WinDVD don't work any longer!!! Vista shows failure window "WinDVD MFC Application don't work".
For this you need to contact InterVideo Support to know how to fix this issue.

Well, I guess those 2 files are not installed properly. However, if you have Internet connected, when you start WinDVD it will try to connect InterVideo server to replace those 2 .htm files so you might see some add-on packs for WinDVD in Solution Center.

You need to contact InterVideo Support for help.

If you could not contact InterVideo Support, call where you buy the software for a refund.

For this issue, please make sure your WinXP is been updated to Service Pack 2.

Check Microsoft Windows Update for the Windows Installer update packs then you should be able to install WinDVD properly.

Microsoft Windows Update:
http://update.microsoft.com

If it still not work after you install the Windows Installer Update Pack, it's possible your CD is a fatal one. Contact where you buy the software to ask for a replacement or contact InterVideo Support for help.

You still need to contact InterVideo Support for that.

Hope this helps.

Hello htchien,

Thanks, your ideas seems to be good, but they don't help.
Or run the .msi file to install WinDVD 8, not the Setup.exe.
this don't work. Error: "This package can't be started direct, please start the setup.exe"
I believe you could unblock it in Control Panel->Windows Firewall.
This have nothing to do with the firewall. Windows Vista brings an new feature, the autostart blocker, to block programs who will be started when Vista boots up.
For this issue, please make sure your WinXP is been updated to Service Pack 2.
I had installed SP2 and the newest windows installer 3.1. This could not be the resason.

Yes I should correct it as Control Panel->Security Center->Windows Defender.

You could unblock the program in Windows Defender. See if the followings would help.

Have you tried it?

If these steps still could not help you, I don't know what to help next, sorry.

Hope this helps.

Hello htchien,

Yes, I removed as suggested the "Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package" bevor I tried to start the msi file.

And yes I tried to contact InterVideo Support for help. I'm now waiting for their answer.

I'll try tomorrow to slove the Windows Defender blocking story

I had tried Windvd8 and experienced similar issues on XPpro, The main issue was Windvd8 was unable to decode Dvb-t channels in MyTheatre.
I did have great difficulty reinstalling Windvd 7.
I had to do a system restore then uninstall Windvd 7 do a clean the registry and reinstall again it.

What a pain, Not going to Windvd8 until these bug are fixed and HD-DVD is working.

this program is so full of bugs you'll probably need several cans of fly spray to get rid of them.check out this bug that has been discovered and is many months since the topic began
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=21726
as for support,well....there is none and if there was all these problems would've been solved by now.i now use power dvd and have given up on this poxed piece of software called windvd8.i dont even want a refund because it will probably be full of bugs too
