Unwelcome posts

Post by jparnold »

I have noticed an increasing number of posts on this web board which asre about everything EXCEPT Videostudio or any Ulead product.
Mostly the moderators remove them quickly.
The current way of registering to allow posts leaves it wide open to abuse by people who just want to make a nuisance of themselves.

My suggestion is perhaps to charge anyone (who wants to register) with a small once off fee ($US5) which could be donated to any worthwhile global cause by credit card. If any of these non Videostudio interested people still registered their credit card number could be used to track them down. I would not mind forking over a small amount of money to help prevent these nerds from leaving advertisements and whatever.

It is frustrating that forums such as these get hijacked on occasion so I agree with you on that one. I certainly dont think a charge is appropriate. We internet people love our forums and the valuable information we gain from them. Its the old "why spoil it for the many when only a few transgress". Sometimes we just have to put up with it. And dont forget, some of us are nerds too!

I get sick and tired too, removing this mental diarrhoea from our boards but I don¡¦t believe in a charge to fix it. There are other means of preventing mental low life from posting their crap here. Alas, admins don¡¦t seem to head our advice, leaving us to clean up several times a day.

jparnold...I have no objection if you pay my 5 bucks... I am sure many other forum members will not object, as well.

Any board software worth it's salt will allow for moderation of postings. That is, when a new person signs up their first (or what ever number you want) post will be placed in cue for a moderator to release to the forum. Once the moderator sees that this new person is asking legitimate questions / comments they will allow realtime posting.

Since these off topic posts are removed within hours by someone, these same "someones" can handle the new people and check / release their posts.

If that means a few more assistant moderators, so be it. If another moderator is needed in the US time zone, I am available since I am tied to this PC everyday anyway

The moderators can remove posts but have no control over who signs up.

However.......
PHPBB3 is currently in Beta Format and gives Moderators similar powers to those enjoyed by Administrators.

You'll never stop them! I'm an Administrator for an aviation related forum and get random idiots posting porn etc. If the admin here wants to reduce this then change to Simple Machines (http://www.simplemachines.org/). Gives much better control over the forum than PhP.
I installed simple machines here  http://forum.middleagedgamers.co.uk/index.php
For a gamers clan in the UK.
Looks much better! :D
