Windvd 8 Platinum Problem
I have just purchased Windvd 8 platinum. It is being installed on a Windows XP operating system with a 2.16 Ghz. AMD Athlon processor with 1gb of memory. After installing the program I always get the following popup message when I try to start the program.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\ProgramFiles\Intervideo\DVD8\Windvd.exe
abnormal program termination
When I click ok on the popup box the program immediatly ends.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice and always completely deleted the folder that is left in Program Files. I even redownloaded the program from Intervideo's website and doing a clean reinstall.
I always reboot the computer when uninstlling and reinstalling.
I also ran a system registry cleaner before the last reinstallation.
Still no success. The program will not accept my activation info.
I am not a newby with Intervideo products , I have successfully installed several of their programs with no problems. I am waiting for a responce from their Tech Support but I no joy yet ! Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to tools\folder option\advance setting to check "show hidden files and folders".

3. Go to "C:\Program Files\InterVideo"
4. Delete the folder for "DVD8".
5. Delete the following folders:

I did have a similar problem and I needed Windows installer for it to work

sjj1805 ,
I followed your instructions to the letter. I could not find the folder or registry entry {20471B27-D702-4FE8-8DEC-0702CC8C0A85}. After doing everything you suggestd my computer became hoplessly locked in a loop----Windows installer was constantly trying to install Windvd 8 then a popup window would follow declaring that the installer could not find -- Windvd .msi --. I could not escape the cycle, I tryed rebooting and system restore points. I still had no control over the Windows Installer. I downloaded a fresh Trial Version of Windvd 8 .To no avail, try as I may I could not escape the loop that the installer was in. Please understand that I could not cancel it in any way.
Bignickfly,
I tryed the Microsoft download you suggested. When I attempted to install the update a popup window said that the installation wasn't need when Service Pack 2 is installed.
Fortunatly I constantly backup all of my files on an external hardrive regularly. The ultimate solution was a complete system restore.
I have just finished successfully installing and activating Windvd 8.
After using many dvd playback programs Windvd 8 has the best playback quality I have used yet. Too bad it isn't easier to install.
I appreciate your help.

I performed a complete reinstallation of the Windows XP Operating System.
It is a drastic and time consuming thing to do , but as you all know it is the same as starting with a new computer. I do this a couple of times a year to get rid of all the residual garbage in the system. The increase in the speed of the computer is well worth it.
I just wanted to say this so there is no confusion as to what it took to get the problem solved.

A number of users do this. For those that do a time saving method is after initally setting up the operating system and drivers and other essential stuff, then create a disc image of your hard drive. there are various tools available to do this.Cuz wrote:I performed a complete reinstallation of the Windows XP Operating System.

You can then at any time revert your hard drive to that state - sort of a system restore to a fixed moment in time.

No, I know quite a few people who like to re-install their operating system at least once a year. They claim it clears out the cobwebs and improves the speed and performance of their system. Personally I have my own housekeeping methods, but the hard drive image system is still worth passing on.Jimruss1 wrote:all that for one buggy program
It may suit some users, though not all. The beauty of a User forum such as this is that we can all exchange different ideas and methods.
No one will claim that their system is better than another's, it is all about being given various choices. It's a bit like going to the newspaper shop and having more than one newspaper to choose from.
After paying sixty US dollars it was either do what I had to do or lose an investment. I am also looking forward to upgrading to HD DVD or BluRay HD when it becomes available. Besides that I really enjoy the challange of getting those buggy programs up and running ! I have never had one defeat me yet and I have had my share of them.
