Program locks up while changing thumbnails in menus

Post by DonUrban »

I've created a half dozen chapters, when editing the thumbnails by double clicking on them, eventually one pops up that locks up the program. That one will have the thumbnail of the first chapter in it, the picture of the first frame of the project. The project is in the DV format, contains over 200 clips and is 1 hour 20 minutes long. VS 10 I've updated with the 2007 service pack. HELP
Thanks Don

Hi Don

Welcome to the forum.

I assume you are creating a slide show from the 200 clips you are using.

You give little to go on, so first fill out your profile to include your pc spec¡¦.

Your location would be useful, as we can then see if u are Pal or Ntsc.

Ok
Are you using video content or just still images.
If video what are the properties or the clips.
A corrupt or non-standard file can cause crashes or lock-ups.
Does it only happen on one clip?

You may be best to create a video file of the project prior to going Share Create Disc.

There all video clips, NTSC, DV in DVD out, reading your reply, dose it happen in the same place, reminded me of the last project where every time during play back when it reached a certain point it skipped back to the beginning. Removing that clip fixed the problem. Not sure if it's the same clip or 4th frame of the menu, will investigate. Thanks Don

I thought I should explain the fix. I took the project (over 200 clips) to the SHARE section and used CREATE VIDEO FILE (in my case DV NTSC 4:3) to create a 13GB file that combined all the clips. Opened a new project using the 13GB clip (INSERT MEDIA FILE TO LIBRARY/INSERT VIDEO), creating the menus worked as it should. Do yourself a favor and create your own folder for every project you start, to save all files that pertain to the project in, that way you won't have to go hunting for your data.

That's what we used to call the Recommended Procedure. It's now call the Suggested Workflow (don't get us started on the name change  ). It was recommended, er, suggested to help eliminate just the sort of problem you experienced.
