HELP NEEDED!!!!!

I have the ADS Tech Capture Device which includes the ULead software. I have correctly connected all cables and I can see what happens on the TV on the capture screen on my computer. However when I try to record footage it comes up with a message 'Cannot Build Preview Graph' and won't let me start to record. I have also tried other capture software such as Sony Vegas and Windows Movie Maker and each of them will not allow me to record. Also it says it cannot detect device when using Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas even though I can see what is going on through the screen.
