I finally gave up.

I have given up trying to get a response from Intervideo. I purchased Cyberlink PowerDVD and it works well under Vista. And they have tech sipport that will actually talk to you. I have been an Intervideo User for many years but will never buy another thing from them. They will not survive with this kind of support.

What helped me was installing the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)".
Post a reply if this helps for you too, please.

It worked for me too. Thanks for the great tip! I have had this problem for months!

I had exactly the same problem tonight after installing the try before you buy InterDVD 8. Installing the service pack for the redistributable C++ package does indeed do the job. Credit to the guy who posted the solution.

I won't be buying this, because I think its appalling how long this thread has gone one without any interaction or help from interdvd developers/support (apart from the ridiculous 'read the faq' or do a clean reinstall - how infuriating!)

I will probably check out PowerDVD instead.

Support is available however, is fee based..

Have you tried going through the FAQ on the Corel website? I'm not sure what sort of problem you're having but there are several solutions provided there. For example a Vista Patch:
Please get the WinDVD 8 Vista compatibility patch thru this link (http://download.intervideo.com/windvd8/ ... _patch.exe).

Note: when applying the patch, make sure to disable all running programs including your firewall and anti-spyware. Please be advised to clean your temporary files found under "C:\Documents and Settings\[folder name of the account]\Local Settings\Temp", select all the files inside "Temp" then hold "Shift" key before hitting on "delete" button on your keyboard. After applying the patch, restart your computer. Launch the program then check if the problem will still occur.
MFC Application Patch wrote: Please download and install the patch below.

Note that this update patch is applicable only to retail webtrial build of WinDVD 8.

Procedure:

1.
After installation of WinDVD 8. Install the MFC patch
2.
Reactivate WinDVD 8. Be sure to use the activation details found on your confirmation email. The activation key can also be retrieved by logging-in to Intervideo's membership page.
3.
Use WinZip or WinRar to extract the zipped file.

I have downloaded the patch and when I try to install it is says I have the wrong version. I bought WinDVD8 Platinum from the corel website, paid the full version fee, downloaded it, and have been having problems ever since. The site says the patch is for the retail version only not the downloaded version, what difference should that make, I bought and paid for it just the same. What a crock, I have been all over the support site for two months with no help. Like I said the Corel has no support, fee based, what a crock, how about a refund, it's never worked from the git go. I should have reversed the CC payment immediately when I bought this POS.
