Photos defaulting to PhotoImpact XL

Post by Dolly red shoes »

I have recently installed Photo Impact and since doing so all my photos that I click on immediately default into Photo Impact, whereas before I could view them in Windows XP.

Is there any way that I can reverse the situation, as it is very annoying for me when I get attachments via email, or I want to view something in XP, that it keeps going into Photo Impact.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes you can do this a couple of ways...

In PI, go to Preferences then in the Left pane go down to System>Associate. Uncheck the file formats that you do not want associated with PI.

In Windows:
Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types. Then scroll down to the formats that you want to change, for example JPEG extension, then in the lower section you will see Opens With, followed by the name of the program that opens that extension. Click on the "Change" button, navigate to whatever program you want to use, (Windows Picture and Fax Viewer), select it. Now when you click on file with that (JPEG) extension, it should use that program to view/open it.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. The first option you told me to do I had already done, but it doesn't work. I unchecked every box and it still formats to PI.

The second option....I don't understand what you mean about Windows Explorer....sorry to sound so thick, but I think I only have Internet Explorer.

Do you mean do the second option from Outlook Express...is that Windows Explorer??

Thank you so much....the first option didn't work, but the second did when I finally found out what you meant.

Appreciate your advice...thanks again.
