NOT happy with Ulead
Here is the thing. I really wanted to make excellent videos for my webpage. I only make 10 bucks an hour. I went out and bought a new computer with Vista. I also just bought the new HD2 Sanyo Xacti video camera. And I bought Uleads video studio 10. I like this software because I read it was user friendly and had overlay/chroma key capabilities. Oh, I also bought a big Green Screen. My camcorder only uses Mp4 format. But Ulead w/Vista doesn't support Mp4 format. Thus, I shelled out all this money for nothing. I thought I did my research. I read that it supported mp4, but didn't read the Vista patch info until after I got the software. Now I'm stuck with a computer, camera, and software, green screen that won't work. I just wanted to make green screen chroma key movies I could edit easily. Also, FYI, signing on to this forum is a real pain too. I kept trying but it never emailed me back to activate. I check my spam. Nothing. Apparently this Ulead forum isn't working with aol. Thus I went via Yahoo to get my email. People, minus the couple of grand I spent on my other stuff, I shelled out 100 bucks for this software. And now it doesn't work for me? Anybody? I feel like getting drunk I'm so discouraged.

Welcome to the forums,
First I do indeed understand what you are saying. You're income is more then I make, and I certainly would feel very upset.
Now the fact that VS10 does support MPEG-4, however that VISTA does not, is not the fault of Intervideo/Ulead. Microsoft choose to impose that limitation through Vista. If you read on Ulead's site, where you download the patch, they list out numerous things that will not work with Vista and why. This is something that is not Intervideo/Ulead specific. It is spread throughout numerous video editing programs, even the big name heavy hitters. So once again M$ has managed to cause major frustrations, and costing people more money then need be.
The only thing that I can say and I know it is of no help, but more research should have been done, prior to laying out so much money.
What you can try, is downloading a free program called SUPER, by Erightsoft, and convert your video files to MPEG-2. Then insert the MPEG-2 files into VS10. However be aware that you are going to take a couple of quality hits, 1- just converting from the MPEG-4 to MPEG-2. If you limit your editing and when you are creating your DVD (burn module) make sure that you have the "Do not convert Compliant MPEG files" checked. That way your MPEG-2 files if they are, will not be recoded.

None of my business but since you brought up your paycheck, why a mid-range HD camera for only doing Web work? That seems a bit over kill on a budget.ponyboy wrote:I only make 10 bucks an hour..... I was under the impression that the camera came with it's own editing bundle, however, none of which will probably work with Vista.
Also, looking at the MPEG-4 information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4 it's a bloody mess with developers. "This means that there are probably no complete implementations of the entire MPEG-4 set of standards." Seems to me at this point you are just asking for trouble using this format.
At this point I would go back and try to get a copy of XP from the computer store, or, shell out another $125 and buy XP. You could also wait for VS11.
Works for me, just stay off the roadsponyboy wrote:I only make 10 bucks an hour.....I feel like getting drunk I'm so discouraged.

Ponyboy...If you are buying the drinks, some of us will get drunk with you.
You are earning 10 bucks an hour?...wow ! that is great...lots more than I make ! I have a large tv also, but use it to watch television programs. So, that is a use you may want to consider. Vista is such a new operating system, that lots of software and hardware has not caught up with it yet. So, we need to stay away from Vista ( in my opinion ) until it matures and the major players have upgraded their software programing to be fully compatible with Vista.

Think yourself lucky it didn't work with Yahoo either when I registered!signing on to this forum is a real pain ....Ulead forum isn't working with aol
Still you've made it now so things are definately looking up.
It 's taken M$ years to get XP working and integrated with all the Hard and Software that's out there so I reckon it will be at least two years probably more before they can even start to dream of getting my cash. I've got No intention of paying for 'Vista' until I now all the bugs have been sorted and it's stable and compatible with the available software.
Video editing has enough snags and pitfalls as it is without adding to them.
The Computer Trade are starting to unload their OEM versions of XP now so you should be able to pick up a good deal on Ebay etc then you could have a Dual Boot System for a couple of years.
