Exporting Video Overlays

Post by dnavarrojr »

This is from the web site for C3DPS:

Export Video Overlays

Create full-motion overlay titles that are perfect for videos. Export projects as 32-bit AVI, TGA files with alpha channels, or directly place projects into Ulead MediaStudio Pro or Ulead VideoStudio's timeline.

Does that mean that the exported AVI files have alpha channels?

Yes it does..

For your video to have the 32 bit (alpha channel), go to File || Export Video Overlay, then choose AVI to create a video file of your 3D project.

You can also create SWF (flash) files, and choose Bitmap to have an alpha channel included with your SWF. I've used this quite a lot. (File || Create Animation File || Export to Macromedia Flash || ..with Bitmap)

Cool, thanks.

Another question... when you work on projects, what resolution do you work at? Native? Or, since they're 3D objects, do you work at a smaller res and then just output at native?

When I'm doing a project that I'm going to render and use in videos, then I'll use the same as my video, ie; 720 x 480 NTSC. If I'm trying to learn or figure out how to do something then I'll use the lower res. Once I've got it figured out, then I'll start a new project with my NTSC video resolution.

Some have reported problems with creating a 3D project at lower resolutions, then when done, changing it to the proper video resolution. They have reported that the resultant 3D video is a poor quality, pixelated. However the manual states that this can be done... :?

Also be aware that rendering takes a long, long time, even for short projects. So don't be surprised if it takes 2-3 hours to render a 2-3 minute or less project. This depends on the complexity, and your system (to a degree). It is possible for it to take numerous hours (maybe 8hrs). So for me the best time to render is overnight, or while I'm at work..

Thanks!

For most stuff I'm doing it in C3D 3.5, however I just bought the ESD version of PS, so I'm starting to play with it.

Since there is a bit of a learning curve, I'm mostly exporting objects to directX files and importing them into 3.5 which I'm familiar with at the moment.

One thing I "love" about PS is that I can drag the easy pallete and other tools outside of the app. I run dual monitor, so this helps a lot.

What you do is render your Cool3D project to a video file, then import that into VS.

This link to the VS10 manual worked for me.

Yes, you should be able to import C3DS project into VS timeline directly, just add the C3DS project file into the VS timeline.

If you put the C3DS project file in the VS overlay track, the C3DS project will be rendered in overlay video mode. If you put the C3DS project file in the VS main track, it will be rendered as a normal video.
