Hi
sorry, but I¡¬m a noob with MSP, I would like to know how to apply a video effect to an area of the video only, like certain area of the screen. an example is I got a viedo of people watching tv, and I like to change what they are watching on tv to black and white
how can I select only the area of the tv screen to aply the BnW filter?

Problems in recording in DV
I have recorded some scenes in Lapland (16:9) over a Christmas movie (4:3) recorded two years ago.
However, whilst many scenes were OK, i.e. the previous Christmas part of the movie were erased and replaced by the Lapland ones, some other scenes were not properly recorded. The result is a mix of Christmas and Lapland scenes which come in intercaleted strips. It seems that the 16:9 Lapland not well recorded scenes are there (by analysing a few frames) but are spread over the 4:3 ecran with the Christmas bars. Is there any way of recovering the so much wished scenes from the beatiful white (and rather freezing) Lapland? Any software? Many thanks in advance.

not sure if this helps
I hope i do this right, and that it is helpful for your needs:
First, in a photoshop-type program, I created a square with a transparent box inside it (square within a square, make the inner square color the transparent color in the GIF image...in this case the color is actually bright BLUE in the photoshop program, but its showing as transparent, and thus WHITE in this post. Pick a color that is not likely to match other colors in your film selection, like you would a greenscreen).

Then, in MSP, I selected the video clip and chose to add a "video filter" to it.
Then I clicked on the "region" button (see pic)

In the region box that pops up, I selected "gray key" overlay and "image matte" mask (browse to the created matte image). I then clicked the eyedropper on the inner square color.

Here are the pictures of the timeline to show how it looks as the video clip progresses:

The idea is that the effect I chose (the black w/ neon colors) only ends up applying to the region NOT set as transparent in my image overly, if that makes any sense
