WinDVD 8 expired

Post by jbadia »

After uninstall the WINDVD 8 (8.0.6.104) in Windows Vista and reinstall the version (8.0.6.109) I always get a message (in Spanish) similar to "Your test period has expired...". I activate it with my valid activation key and I get an OK message similar to: "The activation is correct. Please, run the program again". But when I run it again, I am asked again to activate the program so I never can run WinDVD.

Are you running in Administrator mode whilst attempting to activate it?

Yes. Even I run the installation program in admin mode. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 or 4 times. I've done the clean uninstall as explained in the FAQ. The fact is that I have a license and a valid activation key and I am not able to run the application. Version 8.0.6.104 it was working fine, and I decided to upgrade to 8.0.6.109 to see if some bugs were fixed.

Your copy of WinDVD - is it a standalone product you purchased separate from anything else OR is it the included version with another Ulead Product such as MovieFactory?

I purchased the license at the Intervideo web site.

Your copy of WinDVD 8 might not have activated properly so it continued counting the trial period then expired. Intervideo have actually rebuilt the installer for WinDVD 8. This should fix the issue. Download the new installer file from the InterVideo website. Uninstall the current version you have and install the new one.

If you are unable to uninstall the existing version on your computer, please use this procedure to uninstall it:

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to tools\folder option\advance setting to check "show hidden files and folders".
2. Clean up temp files from\Start menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Cleanup.
3. Go to "C:\Program Files\InterVideo"
4. Delete the folder for "DVD8".
5. Delete the following folders:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\InterVideo"
"C:\Program file\InterVideo\Common\Bin"
7. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
8. Delete the folders "{20471B27-D702-4FE8-8DEC-0702CC8C0A85}"
9. Go to Start-->Run and type "regedit"
10. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo"
11. Delete the folder "DVD8"
12. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterVideo\"
13. Delete the folder "DVD8"
14. Close "Regedit"
15. Restart Windows then reinstall WinDVD 8

Notes:
1. You need to have "Administrator" privileges on your computer. "Limited" or or even "Power User" accounts won't let InterVideo software install or run properly on your computer.
i. Right click on your WinDVD 8 shortcut from the Desktop or Start menu.
ii. Select "Run as" and select "Administrator" as the user to run this program.
iii. Apply the changes and exit.
2. The activation code expires after 10 days from purchase but you can generate a new activation key by logging into your InterVideo member account

I also have the same problem.

I've spent the better part of the day struggling with this and can only conclude the software is currently broken in the case where one has been a loyal customer and has had prior versions installed.

Also, the instructions provided are incorrect. For instance:
Steps 7 and 8, no such folders after a clean install of the latest WinDVD8 downloads from the site.

Deleting registry certain folders in the program files directory is prevented due to .DLL's still being active. One must first go to control panel-add remove programs to uninstall the WinDVD8 application first.

After three attempts at cleaning up, re-installing, I'm stuck with a non-functioning app that insists my trial period has expired, even though I have legit keys for it.

Oh, I also would get the stupid MFC Crash as well during some of the installs.

There is mention of a 'fixed' installer, can someone provide a direct link to it.

You could try using EndItAll to close the processes preventing you from deleting the dll files, alternatively from the windows start button, run, services.msc and force the process to stop.

The re installation information given above was taken from Intervideo Website here:
Product support

That link was reached from this link containing various other Intervideo
Frequently Asked questions

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I had read the FAQ's and followed (to the extent that they are actionable) the steps outlined. No Joy.

I've bee in the software development field for 30 years, so I'm no stranger to issues and how to overcome them.

This particular one, will require a fixed installer or code from Intervideo.

I'm not about to do a fresh OS install just to because I've had too many prior versions of intervideo's products.

Thanks for trying to help, but it sounds like I need to wait for a fix to come out.
