Stop capture

Post by suethomo »

Hi,

When I am capturing and I hit the "Stop Capture" button I do not get a response. I have to hit it several times before anything happens. Has anyone else had this problem? I am using Videostudio 8 and windows XP.

Hi suethomo

Are you capturing via firewire to Dv-Avi.

Check the duration timer when you hit stop capture does it stop but the camera keeps running. for a while.(until the captured clips have been loaded to the timeline)

There is a word I would like you to remember when using any non linear video editor. The word is "patience". The necessity for patience is absolutely necessary, especially when dealing with DV-AVI files. You may hit the "start capture" or the "stop capture" button and the device will not react right away. This isn't a light switch you know. Your computer is handling huge files if you are working with the DV-AVI format. By way of illustration, have you ever been in a situation where you're walking in a hall or somewhere and suddenly someone walks right in front of you and you find yourself in a position of not being able to get out of the way quickly enough. You can't seem to stop your feet and you end up bumping into this other person. That's kind of what it's like for your computer handling these huge video files. It needs time to re-adjust, to catch it's balance and to react in such a way that will be good for everything concerned. There are a lot of elements at hand within the software, the pc and also your camera. Definitely do not hit the "stop capture" button more than once. If it keeps going more than about 2 or 3 minutes, something has gone wrong and you will probably need to exit the entire program. This has happened to me a couple of times. After exiting the program, I looked in the file where the captures go and the file was there. This sort of thing happens with all editors once in a while. One of the things that can cause this is having a hard drive that's in need of a defrag. Good luck.
