video studio 8 install problems

I have been using UVS 8 for a few years now and I love it.

Installed it on my new laptop and have had a headache since.
When I try to preview my project I get a pop up that reads,

" failed to use DirectShow video engine. Cannot play back audio stream:no hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding."

I can preview a clips, no sound though but no project preview.
New machine runs on Vista and old one was on XP

I also just noticed that the help files are missing as well.

Please help me

VS8 simply won't work with Vista, period. VS10, even with a Vista patch, is having enough trouble doing so. VS11 should be out fairly soon, and that should be fully Vista compatible.
