Fix: Import DVD (VOB) Files DMF/VS/MSP

I have the following products installed on my computer
MSP7/MSP8/VS9/VS10+/DMF2/DMF4/DMF5/DMF5+
I had no problems importing DVD (VOB) files.

After installing DVD MovieFactory 6+ I noticed that neither DVD MovieFactory 6+ or any of the above mentioned files would import DVD files any longer.
I checked the Windows XP error Messages which revealed

Faulting application dvdmf.exe, version 4.0.0.0, faulting module h264vdechpdll.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00073a38.

I used the Windows XP Search tool and discovered that I had 4 copies of
h264vdechpdll.dll installed on the computer.

One file had a file size of 413 kb and a file date of 01/08/2005
The other 3 files were 689 kb. One had a file date of 20/12/2006
the remaining two had a file date of 18/01/2007.

I renamed the 3 files with a file size of 689kb to h264vdechpdll.old and ten copied the remaining file to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG

This cured the problem and I am now able to import DVD files from all of my Ulead programs.

I had the same issue again when I installed my copy of VideoStudio 11+.
Once again this cure solved my problem.

It is more than likely a problem with my computer rather than a flaw in the 2 new programs, but at least this possible cure is available if anyone else has the same problem.

The version of h264vdechpdll.dll installed with VideoStudio 11+ is 993KB.

Using MF6+ if I replace and use that file you posted after an avchd dvd is imported the program generates a windows fault condition.
Replacing back the original MF6+ file then MF6+ works again.
I would think that VS11+ would have similar results with an avchd disk.

Briefly this means that if you do not use AVCHD then this fix should work for you. If however you use AVCHD then do not use this fix.

I tried the suggestion - found 4 files with thst name and renamed all but one - result was dvd MF won't even load!!!

I tried downloading the version of the file suggested - and all I get is the site but an error message saying I am not authorised to use the site!!!

Any other suggestions?

Would it help to uninstall vers 4 before installing V 6?

I tried to use the link you suggested

but it just refuses to work at all - keeps coming up with message Internet explorer cannot display the web page. I have tried by clicking on it, pasting it to new window, typing it in IE in another PC - but same thing.

Is there any other way to obtain this file or is the address slightly wrong.

I also had aeply from Corel tech services suggesting the following You have either multiple occurrences, or an older version of mfc42.dll (Microsoft Foundation Class) file the current version should be 6.00.8267 (date should be 26/7/200 although I have seen newer versions with anti-virus software).

Do a search for mfc42.dll on your C: drive. The path varies from version to version of Windows, but it will be similar to C:\windows\system (Windows NT looks like C:\winnt\system32).

If you find more than one copy of the file, rename any that are NOT in the Windows\System folder to mfc42.old
However this stioll dosn't fix the problem - DVDMF 6 still crashes out as soon as I try to click on the chapters of an DVD folder

Any help would be appreciatedd. Sadly if I can't get this to work I think I am going to have to ask for a refund from Corel - but hopefully some fix will eventually work.

HOWEVER a bit o good news I tried installing DVDMF 6 on my 3rd PC. Initially it crashed out when installing, so had a bit of cleaning up when I re-bootred. However it did install properly next time. I copied the DVD folders over to it - and this time it did manage to import the DVD folders AND allow me to pick the tracks/chapters and bring them in without crashing - so there is hope yet! This 3rd pc is only used for video & audio editing whereas the other 2 are used for DTP & W as well as DVD authoring. What I willk try to do is to get copies of the files you mentioned off this 3rd PC where it does work and copy them to the other 2 and see if this solves the problem. I'll keep a note of the size/date/version and let you know what happens. If this still dosn't work, the other thing I will try (in between other work) is to go back to the origional install on the troublesome PC from a drive image backup - put in DVD MF6 first - and see if it runs then gradually re-install other software and see if I can track down whose software is installing the wrong version of this file. It might take me a few days but at least if it helps to track down where this problem is coming from it might be a help to anyone else who has this same problem. I'll let you know later today when I have copied the .dll files over from the video editing PC where DVDMF6 does seem to work.
Right now I am doing a drive image backup on one of the troublesome PC prior to going back to the clean install done in Feb.

Many thanks for that link - that one worked OK this time to download. Not only that but after I replaced it in the 3 folders where the other versions were (ulead MF6/ disk recorder 2.3, movie factory 6 and common files/ ulead systems/mpeg.) I tried the DVD folder import and BINGO it started to import the tracks without crashing out. Iwa a bit worried when twice MF6 disappeared from the screen and appeared to have crashed out - but after a few seconds it came back again. It looks like at last it is going to work.
I am going to try it on the other PC just to make sure but it does now sem to be workign on the one I actually need it to work on.
The file is dated 08/08/07 and size of 403kb.
I'll let you know what happens on the other PC but this does look as if it isgoign to solve the problem. Many thanks for your patience in helping sor this out

Just a follow on note to say that the fix has sorted out the problem on all 3 PC's I tried it on. (although I will only actually be using it on one PC by the way!) However itr has proved that this was the culprit and the file you mentioned H264DECHPDll.dll dated 08/08/07 size 413kb does seem to sort the problem out. Interestingl looking at one Pc I saw that there were 3 different versions of this file all different dates and sizes!
