VS 10 not displaying the Multiple Overlay & Surr Sound I

Post by Rycam »

I purchased the full version of VS 10 last year and it loaded with no problems.

After spending +2 months editing some DV footage, I was not able to burn a DVD. I was constantly prompted just before the process was complete that there was a problem and needed to close. When I realised that my further attempts were producing the same result, I uninstalled, rebooted and re-installed VS10. Once re-installed, the Multiple Overlay & Surround Sound icons disappeared. I uninstalled & re-installed about three times, with the same result.

In desperation, I took the orginal disc to the store where I purchased VS 10 & asked them to load it on one of their test PC's. The result was exactly the same.

Before signing up to join this forum today, I requested assistance from Ulead Support. Due no doubt to a backlog of work they have not yet had a chance to assist me. In the meantime, I am hoping that someone has experienced the same problem and can give me some options to try.

Before purchasing VS 10, I used Pinnacle (version 9.2) and never had a single problem. I must admit that I prefer the VS10 features, but I am beginning to wonder if it will ever work.

Can you confirm which version you have: 10 or 10 Plus.

v10+ has 6 overlay tracks and Dolby 5.1.

v10 only has 1 overlay track and does not include D5.1.

Have you tried a "clean" uninstall/reinstall? (The link is for v9, I couldn't find one for v10, but I'm sure the procedure is the same.)

No, I have not, but am willing to try. The fact that same problem occured when my disc was used to load onto my software supplier's test PC makes me sceptical that the clean up will work. The test PC never had any Ulead products loaded on it, so VS 10 should have loaded correctly.

When I loaded the software on my own PC the first time, the Multiple Overlay & Dolby Surround functions were available. I only used the Multiple Overlay function for my edit and it worked perfectly.

Just to report that I tried the clean out & instal/re-instal over the weekend and I still have the problem.

What I cannot understand is that the sample video that downloads with each installation, claerly displays all of the multiple overlays used. Logic as opposed to I.T skills tells me that this should not display given the problem that I have highlighted. I would appreciate comments.

Hi
Strange problem, whilst viewing the knowledge data base I did find a link to VS 10 Clean re-install, but as Jeff said its probably the same as VS 9.

A strange problem indeed !

Trevor, if you (or anybody else) can confirm that when you open your own version of VS 10, the Multiple Overlay & Surround Sound icons automatically appear. In other words, there is no need to activate it manually.

Thanks.

That is correct. You do not have to activate them.

Hi Rycam

Now this is a daft reply but You have to be in Timeline View

Second icon from the left

Ok so that was a daft question.

I see the 5:1 Enable Disable Surround Sound and Overlay Track manager available.

In Story Board View I loose the Overlay Manager.

Scratching at straws
Try uninstalling/re-installing the Indeo Driver????

Good observation, Trevor. I always work in timeline view so didn't notice the difference.

Thanks guys for your contributions. I worked in timeline view with my first edit. Now the icons are missing.

Excuse my ignorance, but I did not understand what function the Indeo driver has, let alone knowing where to locate it. Some pointers would be appreciated. I trust that I would either need to make a copy this driver, before uninstalling/installing or lto ocate another indeo driver from the internet for downloading ?

Hi Rycam

Sorry if I confuse the issue.
The indeo driver is usually part of the VS installation.
It is needed for displaying some content of the Movie Wizard, templates etc

View the read me files on the installation disc.
• Intel Indeo 5.2 - This is the codec for creating or playing .AVI files in QuickTime. You should install Intel Indeo 5.2 or above to be able to use the style templates in the Ulead VideoStudio Movie Wizard.

As I said I was scratching at straws.

On the install disc there is an option for ¡¥Install Utilities¡¦ the Indio driver should be located there, but as I said these drivers are usually auto installed.

Still thinking

Hi Rycam

What confuses me:-

If the program installed on the software suppliers Pc, had the same problem, then you would assume the fault must lie with the disc.

If that¡¦s so, then how come it worked in the first place?

What possible connection can it have?

What operating system are u using?

Have u upgraded/updated this system?
Is it vista?

Hi Trevor,

I am using XP Home. My PC is basically - 3.00Ghz P4, with IGB RAM & 80GB hard drive.

The reason why I emailed Ulead VS10 Support before joining this forum was to get an expert opinion on what the problem could possibly be. The developers of the software who know its exact make-up should be able to offer a solution (s). The fact that it did not work at the store remains a mystery. If for example, my PC has a virus, then it implies that the store's new PC has the same virus. This does not seem reasonable to me given that my PC & the store's PC both have operational virus detection software loaded. The chances are very remote that the store's PC has exactly the same problem (virus) as my PC.

I doubt whether the disc is faulty for two reasons:

(1) disc did work initially and
(2) I made a backup copy of the disc when I bought it (I do this in case the original becomes faulty) and I was also unsuccessful in getting the backup disc to load correctly.

It therefore appears that there is something wrong with my PC (2 years old) and the store' s new PC.

I faxed the store manager on Friday, 30/3/07 for assistance, but like Ulead Support, he has not responded.
