A large number of Video Studio 8 users are experiencing Video/Audio Synchronization problems when a clean video file is burned to a DVD. I experienced this when I burned a second DVD from a project that had produced a perfect DVD, earlier.
I looked at the state of the c:\Program Files\Common Data\Ulead Systems\ DVD and discovered that the dll versions depend on the order in which the updates were applied.
If the 8.01 update is applied first and the Burning Engine update 3617246 second, the first column shows the resulting versions. The second column shows the versions if the order is reversed. Note the regression to lower version numbers (bold).
LdvdEng.dll_________3.6.9.127_____3.6.9.131
LdvdRec.dll_________2.4.8.144_____2.3.7.137
LudfWrtr.dll_________1.2.6.113_____1.2.5.107
LXBurnCom.dll______1.2.17.105_____1.2.17.102
uDVDBurnMgr.dll____1.4.6.43_______1.4.6.44
ULCDRDrv.dll_______3.6.17.246_____3.6.15.239
Clearly, this is a bad situation for users.
Which column is correct?
Or is it possible that neither is correct and one must manually choose the latest version in every case?
In any case, my Video Studio was column one and I experienced loss of V/A sync when burning a clean video file to DVD.
If everyone will check their version numbers (in c:\Program Files\Common Data\Ulead Systems\ DVD) and report back to this thread if column one or two as well as whether they have had V/A sync problems, maybe we can get a handle on what is causing the problem

Burn engine woes
I decided to check in my installation to see if it matched yours. Here is what my results are
First column is the saved DVD folder
Second column is after doing the upgrades
LdvdEng.dll_________3.6.9.131_____3.6.9.127
LdvdRec.dll_________2.3.7.137_____2.4.8.144
LudfWrtr.dll_________1.2.5.107_____1.2.6.113
LXBurnCom.dll_______1.2.17.102____1.3.18.115
uDVDBurnMgr.dll_____1.4.6.44______1.4.6.43
ULCDRDrv.dll________3.6.15.239____3.6.18.255
As you can see I also have some modules in the new DVD folder that are older than the original ones. I wonder if this explains the problems I had burning a DVD that would not play in my Panasonic player. I find the update very confusing so I would not be surprised if I made a mistake doing the upgrade. Does enyone recommend what I should do?
Can someone write in simpler prose the correct order to do this upgrade? and Do I need to start from scratch or simply repeat the burning engine and what other update? Should I just copy the modules that are newer version from the old DVD folder to the new DVD folder? Al

Al,
First, I have already sent this information to Ulead Technical Support with a request for an explanation and recommendation. We will have to wait for a reply about which versions are correct.
Your results are really interesting because your update has version numbers that exceed mine on ULCDRDrv.dll and LXBurnCom.dll - yet we both downloaded the same update file (3617246.zip) - probably on different dates. This would imply that Ulead is changing the content of the update file without changing its name.... I really hope not....
My 3617246.zip was created (Properties/Modified) on August 27, 2004.
When was your created?

Can't tell the date
I agree, some of my version numbers are different than yours. I added the html file describing the upgrade to the zip file, so I can't tell the modified date from my archive (something I usually do when downloading stuff). Here is the zip file contents:

Latest zip file is yet different
I got tech support to say that the different file versions is not unusual, and suggested that I download the latest zip file. Here is the file versions with the latest zip file:
First column is the saved DVD folder
Second column is after doing the upgrades on 12/12/04
Third column is after doing the upgrades on 12/21/04
LdvdEng.dll______3.6.9.131_____3.6.9.127____3.7.10.136

LudfWrtr.dll______1.2.5.107_____1.2.6.113____2.5.6.120
LXBurnCom.dll____1.2.17.102____1.3.18.115___1.2.17.108
uDVDBurnMgr.dll__1.4.6.44______1.4.6.43_____1.4.6.43
ULCDRDrv.dll_____3.6.15.239____3.6.18.255___3.6.18.250
This tells me these burning engine files are undergoing intense testing and tweaking. I am going to stick with Nero's burning engine, until these obviously frequent updates have settled... Al

I am horrified that Ulead is actually changing the contents of its published updates without changing the file identifier names. Any experienced software developer knows that this is a recipe for disaster regarding software quality. Moreover, involving users in this flaky procedure is a recipe for very unhappy customers. Whoever has authorized this should be assigned to a new job: counting the number of hours and DVD disks wasted by Video Studio customers.
My confidence in Ulead software quality has hit a new low…

Unfortunately, these files do more than just the burning. They also do the audio/video multiplexing and VOB file creation in the rendering phase. I'm using down-level versions of these as a work-around for my audio/video sync problem.
I use Nero as well to do the burning but depend on UVS8 to create something usable before I have anything to actually burn.
What "latest zip" file are you referring to? Does the UVS8 DST patch affect files in this folder? I haven't bothered with it since it says nothing about correcting the audio/video sync problems caused by some file in the DVD folder.

Dissappointed in ULead's technical initiative
I'm using a Plextor PX-M402U which came with VisualStudio 8SE. Aside from it crashing when I use the slider to set position, it worked reasonably well. I purchased their upgrade from 8SE to 9 to find the Plextor device dissappeared, it still crashes, and if I use another program to capture the file and VS to edit it and then try to burn a double layer disc, I get (don't exactly remember, "burn error, reboot your computer and try again".. sorry) followed up with "udvdburnmgr.dll get burning engine rc string fail, report ID 5213...", and the disc is destroyed.
So I turn to the forums to find that other users are helping each other a heck of a lot more than ULead is helping us, and they're switching around file versions without telling us to boot.
What do I want? I want the device I purchased with ULead's name on it to work with their upgraded software. I want it to stop causing my computer to spontaniously reboot when I use the slider and I want it to stop cranking out coasters at so-many-megabits-per-second.
I have good hardware, but ULead's been a sore dissappointment. javascript:emoticon('')
