Quicktime mov file compatability with Ulead

Post by lukehourigan »

Is there a download to fix Quicktime mov file compatability with Ulead Studio 10. Newer mov files respond to being played in the Edit mode but do NOT respond to the jogslider. Any attempt to "share" to an mpeg2 produces a static image on the mpeg2 file for the length of the original video file. Is there a fix for this ? Would appreciate any advice.
I do NOT have this problem with mov files that are 1-2 years old.

Luke,

To try to determine why this is occurring, we need to know more specifics about the MOV files.
1. What is the source of the MOV files? Were they recorded using a digital still camera, downloaded from the internet, or some other source?
2. What are the properties? You can right-click on one of your problematic files in the Library or Timeline, and select Properties. Then post them back here.

While VS states that it can handle MOV files, I think the MOV files would specifically have to be MPEG-4. MOV files can use a variety of CODECs. Some of these CODECs are so highly compressed that it is just too much for the program, to try to decompress and/or recode.

Unknown if you've read a previous post of mine, where I've mentioned the CODEC used by my digital still camera, a Kodak Easyshare P880. The video format it records to is MOV. However the CODEC used is the old MJPEG, also called Motion-JPEG. For some reason VS has no problems with this "flavor" of MOV file. Still others that use some form of Uncompressed or just unknown (to VS) codec, fail.

What you may have to do is convert your MOV file to another format before bringing into VS. However you may have to use QuickTime Pro to accomplish this.

From another similar thread:
The free program SUPER can convert most of the Kodak mov files to another editable format for VS to work with.

Although I think that buying QuickTime Pro is the best solution, provided your using XP.
Don't know why but every different model of Kodak cam records the video in a different format and puts it into a mov container.

Quicktime 7 Pro is $30 US Dollars. That's reasonable.

install quicktimealt147.exe. It solved all my mov-problems. Please let me know if it helped.
