confused over "share video on line"

Post by bodkin button »

I'm still experimenting with this program and struggling to understand the various formats and codecs.

I want to created a small project for this experiment in the form of a music video from clips of a favourite TV show and would like to send it to friends for comments.

So far I have created the video, put in all the effects and stuff and I really like the way it plays.

I'm unsure of what to do next. Is the trial version not allowing me to access the "Save as" menu in the Share tab? Searching through this forum I've seen lots of questions answered with that reply, but I don't get an option in the drop down menu.

I tried saving as a Video file but even the short 5 minute video I've made is still a huge file varying between 320MB and 90MB still very large to put on a site like sendspace.

I tried the Share Video Online button - that was great, even choosing the high quality the file was only 42MB and uploaded quite well and played on Windows Media Player. The big problem being the video I made is in 16:9 and the file was created in 4:3 and everything is squashed.

Is there a setting I missed somewhere or a tutorial showing me how to shrink the video file in 16:9 into something small enough to share over the net?

Thanks.

There is no "Save As" function under the share tab - not even in the full version. The main options are to "Create Video File" or "Create Disc" with a number of other output options as you have found like "Share Video online"

to access the "Create Video File" option you must have your project or a video in the timeline - then when you click on 'Create Video File' you should have a drop down with a number of options - I do not know how many are provided in the trial version, but there are quite a few in the full version including 'Custom'

And as a footnote, the only 'Save As' command of which I am aware is under 'File' and relates to saving a project with a new name.

Thanks everyone.

My full version arrived today so I can explore a little more.

I also need to do a lot more study on the different file types, I'm finding them very confusing right now to pick which one - so the tutorials will be a great help.

As a quick work around, - although it is probably a very strange way of working to those of you used to all this - I found the easiest way to make the small file was to open a new project actually in 4:3 - drag my finished rendered 16:9 project onto the first layer, drag it out to fit the screen width then used the Share on Line button.

Made a lovely small file of only 29MB much better than my first attempt at 320MB and was in the exact ratio to put on You Tube. Yes it has the black bars top and bottom - but much preferable to "squisshy vision".

I'll do better next time. :)
