Is there a way to do a "creeper"

Post by brodwidr »

In VS10+ is there a way to do a "creeper" -- in other words, have text scroll up from the bottom of the screen, the way credits usually scroll at the end of a film? I can't seem to find that option in the "titles>animation" area of the program.

Thanks,
David

Apply the Fly Animation to your text.

To make scrolling credits, after typing your text, click on the Animation Tab, tick the box apply animation. Then in the pull-down menu select Fly, and the first preset (top left) will be the one to use. To get a good slow scroll you will need the duration of the title to be long enough so that it just doesn't zip by.

A quick search of this forum would have given you a large number of threads all on this subject - perhaps your use of the word "creeper" misled the search engine - try 'scrolling' - here are links to four threads and there are many more :-

Thanks for your help, Brian and SJJ

Actually I had found the "fly" animation method, but when I tried it, my text went by way too quickly, and I was looking for a "speed" slider under animation options. Thanks for making it clear out that you control the speed by dragging the yellow bar changing the duration of the title. That little bit was key.

A good rule of thumb in deciding how long to make your title duration for scrolling credits, take the number of text lines and multilpy by 1.5 to 2 seconds per line. This at least gives you a starting point. You can preview it and adjust from there. :D

That's a good tip Bryan.

Also, you may run out of screen space as you are typing if your text is long. You can move the text box up and continue to type, but that is a bit cumbersome. Alternatively, you can type the entire thing in a text editor such as Word, then copy and paste it into VS.
