Indexed color to RGB

Post by scknapp »

When I convert from an indexed color data type to RGB, I am still restricted to using the colors in the original. How do I get the full range of colors in the converted image?

Where do you expect the additional data (color) to come from? You cannot reconstitute a color that is not there.

What I am trying to do is change the color of an image using the color replacement and/or color transform tools. The colors I want to change to aren't in the original image. I thought when I changed to RGB the full spectrum would be available, as it is when I open a new image - I can fill it with any color I choose, then use the color transform pen to change it to any other color. Where do the colors come from in that case?

Go to file, open new canvas, choose 'active image' and ensure RGB is depressed, that's the one with the colours showing.

Go to your picture, click on Selection on menu bar, make sure the Preserve Base Image is checked then right click on your picture, select ALL... convert to object, and move onto the new RGB canvas. Centre, and merge all. You now have an RGB picture.

Thanks, that works for everything except color transform - that still will only change to colors in the original (moved) image. I can put a new color into the image using fill, but it won't change the "to" color to it, even when I do it with the eyedropper.
