First using all CAPS is considered SHOUTING on forums, so if your caps key is stuck please try to free it..
What program are you using? The following are for Ulead PhotoImpact.
Now are you wanting to extract an object, or just erase it?
To Erase part of a Photograph:
Select the Eraser Tool, which is located on the toolbar, which by default is positioned along the left side. Then drag it across the part of the photo you want to erase.
To Extract and Object:
See the Manual starting on Page#122 Selections and Objects. Then on Page#128 deals with Extracting Objects.
You should already have the manual, as it comes with the program. Using the default install it can be found under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact12 (or whatever version)\Manual.

One good way of 'erasing' something from a photograph is by using clone tools.
You cannot erase in a photograph without first right click, select all and convert to object... If you wish to preserve the base then you need to choose selection and checkmark preserve base image.
