Importing .MOV files to Videostudio 8

Post by Elkskier »

I recently got a Kodak Easyshare CX7430 camera and took several movie
modes with it. I can import them into Videostudio 8 but when I render them
they stall and the resulting file during the video clips play the music fine
but the video only shows a frame every 3 or 4 seconds.

I also had some moviemodes taken with an Olympus D580-Z camera and
those MOV files will render just fine (also tried a D510-Z as crappy as its movie mode is) and they also render just fine. Is there any way to fix this problem? I tried the free plug in for TMPEncode to convert MOV to MPG but
the resulting MPEG files are real glitchy. (loaded with artifacts)

My system Specs:
Intel Xeon 2.8Ghz (2 cpus)
1 gig RAM
Windows XP professional
Ulead Videostudio 8

The easyshare is using the new H-xxx very high compression codec.
The frame rate is usually 15fps.
The video is poor to start with so a conversion isn't that great.

I've gotten other programs to convert the Mov H-xxx codec from a
DX easyshare camera. Not in uleads products yet.

If you have a registered version of "QuickTime" and install all the
features you may be able to load the file into the player and "Export"
it to another format that ulead can read.

Hope this helps,

I tried using quicktime to export the MOV files. If I export it to MPEG4 the
file looks good but Ulead doesn't recognize it at all. If I export it to
a quicktime file, Ulead will use it and render it properly, but the quality of the
exported file sucks. (This is before Ulead processes it) So I tried to export
it to AVI, it says it does the export then hangs at the end and never finishes.

The quality of the moviemode from the camera looks good, but I have to
figure this problem out.

Found a solution to importing MOV files

I think I found the solution to this problem. Uleads website has MPEG4
plugin pack for $30 so I bought it and installed it. Now I can take my
Moviemodes and export them as an MPEG4 using Quicktime and Videostudio can now handle them fine. There is a small degrading of quality doing this but trying other ways (such as exporting them as q quicktime movie) really degraded the quality. Its not a perfect solution but at least I can use
all these moviemodes I took. Hopefully soon Ulead will be able to handle these newer type moviemodes directly.

I have a Kodak camera as well. I paid for a Quicktime license, and was VERY disappointed. conversion of .MOV was interactive, I could not batch and MANY times conversion FAILED.

I searched the web and found a product that I think is just great, SUPERAVCONVERTOR. This tool will convert any type of foirmat including .MOV. It includes MANY codecs, for encoding and decoding, even the newest to support small cell phones.

The product allows batch mode. This was important for me as I had over 100 .MOV to convert. I loaded all the files into the product and let it do its thing. I notice NO degradation with video quality.

Only draw back is that product wants to use all your CPU power, so don't try to run other applications while its converting your files.

It a great product, take a look at http://www.mysupersoft.com/. Its free to try, $30 US to buy.

Ill give that a try. Installing MPEG-4 Support for Videostudio and exporting
the moviemodes to MPEG-4 worked for my last project but the final
video does show some degrading of quality. Batch mode would be very useful and hopefully the conversion process will be better then quicktime.

Not worried about it hogging the CPU, I have two of them in my machine which comes in handy for programs that are piggish.

Seen same problem

I have a Kodak DX7630 and UVS8 and have same problem. Movie file will play but not render in UVS8. I did wonder if the extra plugin for PEG4 would help, thx. Not found any other solution myself. I tried fiddling with all the settings to no avail. Working with older QuickTime movie files is fine.

Kodak's MOV files

Post by Elkskier »

I tried the superavconvert but it also won't handle the moviemodes of
the camera (i didn't register it only used the trial version)

I notice one quirkly thing with ulead and the exported MPEG4 files is
when it renders them it does it but then loops back to play the first
few seconds of the clip right before the next transistion. Too bad I just
couldn't set the camera to compress it to an older type of MOV file.

I know nothing about MPEG-4, but my camera also produces .MOV files. I just deleted M-O-V and typed in M-P-E-G and imported the resulting "new" file to VS8 without a problem.

I'm facing the same problem with video files from my Kodak CX6330. Apparently, this is a widespread problem with Kodak cameras:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ight=kodak

The SuperAVConverter program does convert the Kodak files into usable formats (MPEG, etc.) that I can slide into my VS9 movies. The audio seems to be preserved but the video is still a bit jerky.

I already wasted $30 on QuickTime Pro (which couldn't convert about 3/4 of my MOV files despite being able to play them ... and that makes NO sense to me!), but I think I'm going to spend another $30 on SuperAVConverter despite its imperfections because I cannot find a better solution.

Plus, I'm quite an amateur who is definitely not trying to make theater-quality DVDs here ... plus I'm desperate to make this work. :?
