Preinstalled WinDVD will not load - will not start

Program preinstalled and came with my new Compaq Presario 5100 series. The program has been workly flawlesly for one year, but now when I click on icon, Win InterVideo, and logo comes on screen, when I click the knob to "play", the hourglass appears but the movie never starts. Longest time waited for it to play was 30 minutes. Because I could not get this to work again, I used the "repair software" program which asked me to set the date back to when InterVideo was working which was 9/5/05. I did this, the computer restarted and everything looked fine. I then went back into InterVideo, inserted the DVD, and then got same symptoms. Please help. Thanks.
