Video Captures

Post by slickerooo »

Is the video capture feature to grab a frame of video and save it on one's hard drive available in WinDVD 8? If so, will it work in Vista? I don't want to make the mistake again of downloading something that will not work in Vista as I had with WinDVR.

I think it would only allow you to capture a video frame as image, not a video sequence.

If you are playing a commercial DVD or protected video streams, it might not work. If you are playing a home-made DVD and non-protected video file/stream, yes it will work.

I remember it's the requirement from the Hollywood.

Thanks for reply. I have WinDVD 5 on my windows XP lap top and the capture works fine for all dvds commercial anf otherwise. Why the difference in Vista? I hate to purchase the product like I did the WinDVR and not be able to use the capture mode with the new WinDVD 8. Is there anyone who can tell me if they know for sure that the capture mode only works on homespun dvds?.

Thank you, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar. However, the WinDVD 8 has Vista listed as a doable platform and that other info on that page to which you so adeptly sent me the last time I asked a question on this board has nothing to do with my query.

I just did some test on my WinXP and found what I say in my last post might be wrong (on commercial DVDs). You should be able to capture the video frames in WinDVD 8. Sorry for that confusion.

To know if you can capture video frames as image with WinDVD on Vista, I think you'd better ask InterVideo Tech Support.

The answer is YES.

I have Vista Premium and WinDVD 8 and it works just fine.

My new Toshiba with Vista had the limited version of Windvd installed from the get-go. After downloading Windvd 8 after purchase, I attempted to install it and it would only upgrade the WinDvd for Toshiba and still not allow captures. I uninstalled the whole thing and re-installed it and everything seems great.

Thanks for you help. 8)
