Hi and many thanks for taking an interest.
I have used VS8 to convert digital photos and soundtrack (original files were in wav format) into an MPEG file, as follows:
Video:
MPEG-2 Upper Field First
19,091 Franes
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 16:9
25.000 Frames/Sec
Viariable bit rate (Max. 8264 kbps)
Audio:
MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
36,654,720 Samples
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Layer 2
Bit rate: 128 kbps
The resultant file was then output to DVD (PAL), as follows:
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: 8264 kbps
Audio data rate: 128 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
The problem being is that the resultant DVD, whilst playing fine on WMV, does not play the audio component on my DVD player (i.e. video component works).
Upon inspection of the DVD content, I note that whilst an AUDIO TS folder is there, it seems empty (yet keep in mind, I hear audio with WMV).
Any ideas?

First, the Audio_TS folder is is almost invariably empty on burned DVDs. That is normal.
Second, have you explored your audio controls in the menu of your DVD player? I have 3 and all of them have different settings under audio in their Menus... It requires a little fiddling but all 3 now play DVDs with audio regardless of the format used.

Hi Ken, many thanks for the prompt reply and I will follow your suggestion. Any advice as to what kind of adjustment I should make? The thing that confuses me is that I have done similar projects before and this issue is new. Having said that, I cannot remember what the exact project settings were.Ken Berry wrote:

It really is a matter of looking at the audio section of your DVD player's menu as each seems to be different in what they have and how they behave.
For instance, in a very cheap Chinese model (which in fact is the best I have!
It's called Prima and plays anything round and silver I put in it!!) it has individual settings for all the possible types of audio that can be included on a DVD, including ones like DTS which are not handled by Video Studio. In the case of mpeg layer 2 audio, I have it set to 'RAW'.
On my LG model, the setting for mpeg audio is for it to be treated either separately or else the same as 'PCM audio'. I choose the latter.
The third player I can't tell you about as it is at my beach house. But it is an older LG so I assume has a setting not dissimilar to the above.

You were dead on the money and having changed my Sony DVD player to PCM, the audio now booms out. Many thanks for your time and wisdom.
