video will not "relink"

Post by aliaskis »

So the laptop I spent hours making my video on has decided to be a POS and turns itself off after being on for 5 min, therefore i am not able to burn the video to a CD at all. So i tried saving the file to a jump drive, and also emailing it to myself. then i loaded ulead onto my new computer and tried to access the file. it always comes up with an error saying: Original file [C:\Documents and Settings\(rest of the file name) doesnt exist. then asks me to relink checking. then it tells me some of the clips have not been relinked. when i try to play the videoit doesnt have any of the video i recorded from my camcorder, only the words i put in on the screen. it doesnt put in any of the music files i put in either. i thought that maybe that was an issue specifically related to my new computer because it is a vista operating system, and then loaded everything onto my boyfriends laptop. same issue there. and now im totally up against a wall and i dont know what to do! i want that video! ive been working on it for over a year now! please help me!

but did you transfer ALL the video/stills/music etc. to the second (and third) PC - you have to transfer every single item you used in the project - and know where it is so that you can relink.

If you can transfer everything into a single folder as this usually means that when you relink the first clip VideoStudio quickly finds all the others by itself.

Your main problem is that you're going to have to copy a number of quite large files and if youre L/top dies after 5mins you probably haven't the time to Burn a CD. You mentioned a 'Jump' drive I presume that's USB. What capacity is it?

(a)First you have to find the Drive-Partition-Folder you captured to. Click the Ulead 'Capture' Tab and in the dialogue box 'Capture Folder ' it should be listed there.
(b) on Desktop>double clk 'My computer' dble clk Drive-Partition-Folder and the files you're looking for are UVS xxxxxx this is youre captured video. There will also be Audio Tmp, Auxillary, Image files all of this will need to be copied into your new PC.
(c) If you rippped sound from a CD or used Photos in your project find and copy those.

Edit: How far did you get with your 'Project' ? Did you Create a Video file in 'Share'.
Feedback after members have endeavoured to help you is not only good manners it also helps others to know if a given solution was effective. Thanks.

So I got most of the files moved over. Im using a 250MB USB jump drive, and i have to load a couple files on it, then move it over, then load a couple more and move.

the current issue is: the video, even though it has the files there, wont play since it says it doesnt have DirectShow video engine, no audio hardware available or the hardware is not responding. should i just try googling this "DirectShow" and see if there is something i can download to make it play?

You don't need Google, 'Direct Show' is a Ulead Plug-in that comes with the software.
Which version of VS do you have and how did you load it onto your new machine?

Depending on your version clk>File, Edit, Tools etc and look for this 'Change Capture Plug-in'. Click on it, a drop down list will show the plug-ins installed look for 'Direct Show' if it's there select it and see if you can load your files.

If this doesn't work go to the Folder on the Hard drive in which you have placed your transfered Video files and dble clk them they should now open in your default 'Media Player' if they don't post the exact error message.
