I got a generic TV Tuner card based on Philips SAA7130HL chipset. InterVideo's WinDVR v2.0.34.282 came with it. It worked good at first, using the hardware drivers (v6.15) that came on the included CD, but one time my system crashed upon exitting WinDVR. Microsoft Error Reporting later attributed that crash to a faulty cap7134.sys file, which is part of the driver set. That catalog appears to be circa 2002. I've searched the Web for a newer driver, without success. I tried one I thought promising but my system wouldn't boot under it. Had to roll back. Then I allowed Windows Update to find online a better SAA7130HL driver, which it found and installed. But the TV then no longer worked, giving a "Overlay not possible" error message. It was hellish trying to rid my system of that new driver. I think I got it all back to the original driver set, but now my system crashes (with that cap7134.sys to blame) every single time I exit WinDVR. The TV card is of course PCI, and it was made in China, a generic cheapie I guess. My computer runs Windows XP. Any ideas?? Thanks!
[ie. the TV works fine but it crashes the computer when you quit]
My system crashes almost every time I quit WinDVR

If it worked originally with the drivers on the original disc, it should work again. What you need to do is uninstall all of the programs associated with the TV card - firstly from the Windows control panel and then followed by manual inspection of the Windows directories
C:\program files\.....
C:\program files\common files\....
C:\documents and Settings\.....
Then do the same with the Windows Registry.
The windows registry has a similar structure to Windows Explorer but you need to search two areas
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
Before deleting anything from the Registry it is good practice to save that part of the registry using the 'Export Registry' command from the menubar. This enables you to undo the deletion later if required.
Now open up the Windows Device Manager and look for your TV card and delete it.
Restart your computer and you will see the 'found new hardware' message displayed and you will be prompted for your driver disc.
Once windows has re-installed the drivers from your original disc you then re-install all of your TV card software.

Thank you! I tinkered with it for another hour or so and now it seems to be working perfectly; I've got my fingers crossed. What I did differently maybe this time is a system restart between each of my 4 steps: 1. uninstall the device(s) and uninstall WinDVR, 2. manually reinstall CD-supplied driver, 3. again force the use of CD-supplied driver when system later detects other component of the PCI card, 4. reinstall WinDVR and do its initial setup.
Though I suspect that the problem will continue to haunt on occasions -- where the system crashes upon quitting WinDVR. I hope not!
Post here if reader knows of a driver newer than v6.15 for this generic type-7130 TV card, particularly a newer cap7134.sys file (uh, if you can believe Microsoft Error Reporting advisements).
