Garbled preview until capture starts

Post by Neil Goodwill »

I have Movie Factory 5 Plus, and am very happy with it apart from one annoyance.
When I use the MF DV capture on my Advent 7016 with 2.6ghz cpu, 100gb hd and Mobility Radeon 9000 display, I get a completly garbled preview picture until I start the capture process, and then everything is fine and the picture is normal. Has anyone else had this problem or can provide an explanation?

When capturing or previewing are you capturing with the Format set to AVI (for DV Capturing) or Mpeg (for on the fly conversion from DV to MPEG).

Could be the device settings used for delay and pre-roll.
I've never changed mine from the default settings.

I have tried both settings with the same results, and have just noticed that on the AVI one the preview stays garbled throughout the capture process so it could be a conflict or overlay problem. This problem doesn't exist on my desktops, and preview on other laptop DV capture progs is perfect (Exsate and Premiere Pro which are also installed on the desktops). I have tried changing the settings for the Radeon card, but with no results.
I hadn't changed the preroll etc. settings, but tried changing them in response to your message, but they didn't make any difference to the problem.
