DVD MF5+ "Runtime Error" when attempting to Burn D

Post by ajazzfan »

I have already contacted Ulead support twice about this with no response other than a useless autoresponder message!

When I first installed the upgrade version of MF 5+ it worked, now 2 months later it no longer works! I tried a full uninstall/reinstall of the upgrade with no luck. Everything works until I try to burn. When I try to burn, I get the "runtime error" message almost immediately after clicking on it--it never gets started--the program crashes. This happens with any file--I used one of Ulead's test files in an attempt to troubleshoot this problem.

DVD MF 4 still works, so apparently this is an issue with DVD MF5+ and not my computer.

I hope a moderator, or someone else on this board can solve this problem, because it appears that Ulead no longer does email support. I've been a user of Ulead products for a few years now, but this may be the last time I purchase anything from them. The customer support is virtually non-existent. I've been waiting almost 3 weeks for a response! I have received only an acknowledgment that my email was received, nothing else. This is unacceptable, a company as "good" as Ulead should take better care of their customers--or they soon won't have any!

Can you advise what code the Run Time Error shows?

Run Time errors can be caused from myriad of problems, from viruses, to software, memory, HDD failures, space issues....

You have 2-40 gig HDDs? How much free space on each, and on the one you have designated (if you done so) as the working folder for DVDMF5?

While 512Mb of RAM should allow you to run the program, it is a bit on the shy side when it comes to working with video. Insufficient Memory can produce a Run Time Error too.

Have you checked your HDD for possible errors (chkdisk), and the last time you may defragmented them?

I have upgraded my system. I now have an additional SATA drive which has over 190gB free--the working folder for Ulead MF is now on this drive.
The program was also installed on this drive. I also now have 1.5gB of RAM. As I mentioned, this program DID work at one time--I had made the upgrades prior to installing it and the program worked with the upgrades mentioned.

I am using only 1 file, a Ulead test file that shipped with MF--it's only 45mB. That's the only thing I have in the project for troubleshooting purposes.

There is NO code--it just says :
"Runtime error. This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. "

As I mentioned, DVD MF4 works fine--I only have the problem with MF5plus.

Thanks for your assistance.

A few suggestions can be found here:
Troubleshooting

Initially I would suspect the test video file may be faulty (even if it was supplied by Ulead) and would suggest you try another.

UPDATE 3/27/07

I checked the computer for viruses over the weekend==none found. All drives were defragmented also. I still have the same Runtime Error.
The SAME FILE burns successfully with DMF 4, so it seems to me it is not my system but a program bug, or a corrupt file somewhere. I don't know if Billy and the boys at MS could have done something? Are there any files that they might have "fixed" that could have broken the program?

Thanks to everyone who has tried to help me out here, I just contacted Ulead email support again in another futile attempt to get some assistance from that resource.

I will never buy another Ulead product....

I've given up on this problem. I paid over $50 for this program and only got about 3 months of use out of it--very disappointing and annoying. I sent Ulead my system information as they requested and I never heard anything back from them. I tried burning with another program and had no problems--definitely a problem with this program. Unfortunately, Ulead does not seem to care about its customers any longer, if they ever did. So, this is one of many permanently lost customers signing off.
