Can Movie Studio create DVDs for both NTSC and PAL TVs?

Post by Patrick Randall »

I just want to create simple DVDs (in USA) that I can sent back to the family in UK.

I thank you in advance for any insight :)

The majority if not all UK DVD players will accept NTSC.

PAL is the UK standard then?

I thank you for the reply - I've been back and forth from UK- USA - Uk-USA too many times in the last few years that my head is well messed up! I have my UK player in a closet here in Florida and a Jaton player here to play my old UK DVD movies and new US ones.

So in theory, when I come back I might be able to also play my US movies in UK?

(Sorry to drift off topic!)

I think I'll give the Moview Factory free download a go and send Mum a trial.

Thanks again.

Briefly yes, the majority of UK players will quite happily play your US stuff, though not the other way round.
Not all US players will play UK stuff.

According to some posters on this forum, it can even make DVD's which play on no player at all...

The problem with making a version in either standard is the fact that the source video is either - or, PAL or NTSC. To make an NTSC version out of PAL footage and vice versa, requires a conversion to a different frame size and frame rate resulting in a quality loss because the software either needs to invent frames to padd the PAL 25 fps to NTSC 29.97 fps or discard some to reduce the frame rate from NTSC to PAL.

Since you are sending a sample DVD, try this. Create your NTSC DVD as usual, but then when you are done, change the project to PAL (in Preferences), and output a new PAL DVD. Send that along, and ask which seemed to play/look better (just label them DISC-1 and DISC-2).
