Optical Analog scene detection marking splitting.

Post by oldspammer »

I have tried a handful of video editing software packages with optical / analog scene detection functions including Ulead VideoStudio 9 SE DVD that came with my ADS Tech DVD Xpress DX2 USB analog capture peripheral.

I have found that the Ulead scene detection cannot be set by adjusting the sensitivity to be able to avoid strobe lights, lightening flashes, fireworks, and fades as triggering a scene change.

Other software packages do have some options to disregard strobe lights, or to disregard fades.

Also other software packages when the sensitivity is set to zero really has a large effect on the number of scene detections that are triggered.

Sometimes I'm editing cable TV program shows to avoid storing and viewing the commercials, but sometimes I'm editing older analog 8 mm camcorder media, so the content and purposes of the schene detection is / are quite varied.

For making a DVD, it is a good idea to have a good but adequate number of chapters as triggered by scene detection markers. Additionally, some scenes can be quite long and continuous, in which case a forced maximum scene size of X minutes should be a user available option.

Still, the main point that I want to have is that the current version software is fast, but it creates scene splits at places where I am unable to adjust the parameters to change.

I would like to see deshaking, image edge detection, color change detection, brightness changes, and possibly user-spot area selection capabilities as parameter adjustable / fine-tunable neural network inputs to a scene detection scheme that could be user-tuned to do a better scene detection / splitting job.

If I wanted all that I would buy a pro program, not an entry level consumer product.

Since there is already a Wish List Thread, I'm locking this one to avoid duplication and confusion..
