Installation problem MovieFactory 3.5

Post by danahippern »

I have MovieFactory 3.5. I installed it once no prolem then uninstalled it. Now when I try to install it it keeps asking for a second disk with data3.cab on it. There is only one disk with no such data3.cab on it. Will not let me install the software again with out it.

HELP!!! Does anyone know what this data3.cab is? The software disk did get a little scrached up but I don't think that is the problem as it is not evbn showing up on the installation disk. Sent 3 e-mails to support for help and was never answered back on any of them. Very crabby support with Ulead. Wonderful software, not a very good company. The worst for support!!!!

Any help at this point would be great!!!. I just want to use my software.

Sometimes the "Data_X.cab" files are hidden inside other compressed files on the disk, and are extracted during install. For some reason the installer is not finding this "data3.cab" file, so thinks it resides on another disk.

How long ago did you uninstall? Have you reformatted your HDD since? If not you may need to do some house cleaning to get rid of any and all remnants of the program before reinstalling. Try doing a complete un-install/re-install. Ulead programs leave a lot of files behind. So just doing a simple add/remove programs from the control panel and then re-installing may not correct some issues. Instructions can be found here : Re-installation of Ulead Products

Since the disk has some minor scratches on, try cleaning it. I have a DVD/CD cleaning kit, Recoton that bascially is an Isopropyl Alcohol spray, and a special round cleaning disk. To clean a CD or DVD, you must swipe from the center of the disk to the outer edge. Do not wipe in a circular motion as that will damage the disk.

Try making a back-up copy of the disk. There might be just enough damage from the scratches to cause it not to find all the files on the disk.
