Could you elaborate on that?
Which version of the program, what type of clip (video, image) what type of text (single, multiple), which font and what attributes of the project for a start.
It would be nice to have some details about what steps you did take and what you intend to do (well OK, add borders or shadow etc)
Let me assure you these functions do work and I don't remember discussions about that (I don't read everything) so it's not a well-known problem so it should be either your installation or your procedure...
