I'm afraid I have to agree with Ron and Daniel. While images captured from video may not be behaving the way you expected initially, this is how video works. As has been explained, VS, like all NLEs, is bound by the TV/DVD standards which have been in place for some time.

Try capturing an image using PowerDVD or similar. Even though the video you are watching should be displayed in the correct aspect ratio, I guarantee the captured image will be 'distorted' in the same way as those captured with VS, there's nothing you, me, or anyone else can do about it.

By default a while ago, I had the habit of saying "try something in PowerDVD" -- but since the merger/buyouts, I say "try it in WinDVD or PowerDVD" :)

I'm not current with these things, because I still use "a previously mentioned software" but I hope Corel doesn't have a video player or your sentences will begin to be somewhat long.
This my understanding of it.
