How can you possibly state that?

Post by dclong »

I have a Vista-64 system. When trying to install WinDVD 8 Platinum Version 8.0.6.104, it wants to download and install Microsoft DirectX Feb 2006 Runtime Web Installer and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86), but mainly just hangs on the installation.

When I try to cancel the download and/or installation of the 2005 and 2006 "payload," the installation simply stops.

After a week, I am STILL waiting for Intervideo Tech Support to get back to me -- as usual.

You should NOT be misleading your end-users like that -- shame on you!

Whom are you talking to? You would be better served to vent your anger towards the guilty party. We are not Intervideo Tech Support nor do we have any influence on what is being released. You are a VISTA user, right, and you are posting on this forum, right? how about if I start to abuse you over some perceived short comings of MS? Would you like that :?

Certainly not. Neither do we appreciate getting abused for something we have no influence over. We are just users like yourself.

Why don't you post in that forum then, rather than starting a new topic? Or better still, if you want a one on one, sent a pm to HT.

Come to think of it, HT would be the wrong tree to bark also, he is not working for Intervideo as far as I know either.

This is a public forum and anyone will answer without asking your permission. You still have a lot to learn

I'm not working for either Ulead or InterVideo, and I'm just a user now.

This is a user-to-user forum, and Ulead employees is not obliged to answer any posts here.

InterVideo employees? Well you need to contact InterVideo Tech Support to reach them.

For the issue you've got, it usually hangs when you are trying to install the software via launching the Setup.exe. (It hangs because you've already got those components installed) Try to find the .msi file in the WinDVD folder and then double clicks on the .msi file to install the program. This way might just ignore the installation of those components and just install WinDVD.

If this does not help, or it just shows "please run the setup.exe" thing, then you still need to contact InterVideo Tech Support for the issue.

Please re-read the WinDVD 8.0.6.104 post, I got the information from the tech support page on InterVideo website. I did not get the information from InterVideo Tech Support or from a InterVideo employee.

If your WinDVD version is higher than 8.0.6.104, then you do not need to install that Vista patch.

Sorry if I cannot help more.

Thank you.

Vista 64 problems with Blu Ray

Post by airman2482@gmail.com »

So is there any DVD player that will work under Vista64?

I have not found one yet.

I have two machines I tested with Intervideo WinDVD and the patch HP supplied on it's website for Vista Biz 64.

No Joy.

The BluRay disk stops after attempting to play.

Works great under Vista32.. but NOT Vista64.

System 1: 8510w 250GB 4GB Nvidia 570m UJ210 DVD
System 2: 8510p 250GB 4GB ATI HD 2600 UJ210 DVD

Ideas?

Thanks...

Just noticed you have the Business Edition of Vista.
Looking at the Vista comparison chart it doesn't look like the Business Edition supports
photos and entertainment
Windows Media Center
Easily make DVDs with Windows DVD Maker
Create high definition movies with Windows Movie Maker in High Definition

From this I would suspect it may be possible to install a third party DVD Player but you would also need to install a codec - I doubt the Business Edition has any built in after looking at the comparison chart.

I would have thought WinDVD would have installed a codec automatically but obviously not. You can check our links to Free stuff for an alternative DVD Player. I know from past experience that Power DVD (not free) installs a codec. Once a codec is installed then all other DVD capable players on your system will use that codec.
e.g. Windows Media Player

Bluray disks

Post by airman2482@gmail.com »

Well...

I do use Vista Business. Correct.
I have WinDVD 9 with Bluray support installed. Right from the HP Website.

No Joy. Tried several combinations.
The only way the WinDVD package will work is with Vista32. Not Vista64 AFAIK. I have tried and tried. I give up on Vista64.

Back to 32 and the slowness....

Any ideas?

Sorry I'm late to see this post.

So far as I know, you can install WinDVD and its codecs on Vista Business, so it's not the issue.

Usually the reason why WinDVD cannot play a Blu-ray disk is because of DRM (Digital Rights Management, a term for content protection). It has plenties of reasons to cause that happened, such as:

Display card driver:

The display card driver cannot response to WinDVD with the correct DRM state so WinDVD permits you to play the Blu-ray disk.

Solution: try to update your display card driver to the latest version.

The way you play the Blu-ray disk:

I remember WinDVD cannot play a content protected disk on the second display if you are using a 2 display system. If you are, try to play the disk on the main display, or remove the second display from your system.

If you still have other issues on playing Blu-ray disks with WinDVD, you should contact Corel Tech Support.

Hope this helps.
