how to compress avi file

i 've created a video in avi format and it,s 20 minutes long but it's almost 4 GB memory. how to compress it without loosing quality. i don't want to make wma file. thanks for yous answer

There are several options. When you go to the Share screen, and choose Save-As, you can choose your format/compression.

AVI is not a single format. It is a "wrapper" or "container" format, and it can contain anything form DV to DivX. I assume you have AVI-DV (from a MiniDV camera) which is 13 GB per hour.

All of these video compression schemes use lossy compession. So, there is always some quality loss each time you encode or re-code.* DVDs are MPEG-2. If you save your file as a 6000kbps MPEG-2 file it will be "DVD quality", and your file should be about 1GB (the audio format/bitrate affects the file size too).


* The best practice is to edit in DV format, and then compress one time to the final fomat.
