I did try everything that I know at the install point but nothing is working.
Install as administrator, with all rights open, run from the site or from computer, set as XP compatible, etc.....
Running Vista Home Premium with 2 gigs ram in a 1680x1050 screen. The install bar stop at 15% and after I have a popup saying:

I just answered a similar question regarding VS10 TBYB and Vista..

In other words it is not supported until after you purchase it. The patch, as most patches, will not install to TBYB versions.PhotoImpact 12 Update Pack 1 (Build Number: 12.0.0.1)
For PhotoImpact 12 Full, Upgrade, ESD and TBYB after activation version.

Compatibility
As a new Vista user I prefer to run application before buying them. I will wait till PI12 Trial will be fixed.
By chance I still have my XP compu to run those incompatible apps.

Finnaly I did
Hi vidoman, sorry about your answer but I was able to install it by going in safe mode, the install went fast and easy. The patch is applied and PI12 run flawlessly.
There is no problems, only solutions.

PI12 and Vista Installation problems
Several years ago, I had tried a graphics program that came bundled with a scanner. It had a great easy feature for selecting an object in an image without great effort. After reading the description of PI12, it looks like it might have a similar feature, and if so, I would definitely purchase it. However, I won't buy something before I try it, because in my experience, refunds are not processed easily and quickly.
I registered with Ulead, downloaded the product and installed it in Safe Mode as per the recommendation in this thread. I could not install the patch, though. When I double-clicked on just the patch, I got an error message stating that it couldn't find an installed product. I couldn't open PI12 in Safe Mode, either because of the resolution. Can you give a hint on how to install the patch? I also had received that "limit users" message, and even tried running it as administrator. It usually won't open. This is not a good selling point for any software. Thanks, KB37

This is a common problem when a new operating system surfaces.
Most existing software was built and designed for XP.
Some manufacturers have devised patches for programs to get them to work on Vista but you must remember they are just that - patches. You might need to wait until the next version is released to get the full benefit of a new operating system.
Perhaps Microsoft should have built in better backwards compatibility into their new flagship system, the issue of existing software failing to function as expected is widely reported across the whole spectrum of computing.
There is a school of thought that Microsoft is trying to muscle in on the computer market as a whole - not just offering an operating system - thus trying to push out fair competition from any other manufacturer that creates anything from music playing software to spreadsheets.

KB,
This is not surprising, and makes me wonder why it worked on setup's system. As Steve explained the problem is not inherent to Ulead products, but to the whole PC market. For example my PC is about 3yrs old now, and when I purchased it, WinXP 64 was in beta. My PC uses the AMD 64 bit processor. However I found out that not many software manufacturers were tailoring there programs to take advantage of this. So needless to say, I choose not to upgrade to WinXP 64, as it would have been a waste of money.
It's a shame that M$ plays this way, but then again that's how Bill G. got the billion$ he now has..

To sjj1805 and vidoman re Vista setup for PI12
Ah, If only setupp had gone into more detail with his magic trick. I agree with your comments about M$. However, I had to update my home notebook so I could install the software I needed to be compatible with work. New PCs are bundled with Vista now, too. What are the new computer owners going to do if they want a good graphics software? I never touch the graphics programs that come with Windows.
I logged in as a Registered user and sent a comment to Customer service. I doubt if it will do any good since I don't own the software. Yet. There is no reason why they should limit a patch that would make the software usable with Vista. They would sell more software, and it ceases to work if not purchased.
BTW, I teach a programming class at a university, and I'm also conducting some training sessions for co-workers. I always include my own graphics in my presentations, and it sure seemed like PI12 had what I need. Moreover, if they like what I do, they would be tempted to purchase PI12 also. I didn't think about that aspect when I wrote a comment to CS. Thanks for your opinions.
