Does Movie Factory 4 Allow insertion of Chapte Points

Post by JJordan »

At any point you want them. I have Movie Factory 2 and quit trying to make home movies into DVD's because I found no easy way to put chapter points where I wanted them. If you capture every "scene" then the kids' birthday party where you stop the camera 20 times is 20 chapters. And no two events are the same length or even claose so putting them in by time is worthless too. Does the newer software let you insert a chapter point wherever you want it in a captured video?

I have Movie Factory 2SE and I can add chapter points exactly where I want them. On the add chapter screen I just move the jog bar to where I want and click the add chapter button.

So you can add chapters anywhere and they show up on your main menu screen on the DVD?

This is as I do it in Movie Factory 3 (and looks like it will work in 4 as well, I have 4 but I haven't installed it yet)...

I always capture using the "split by scene" feature. But sometimes I want different chapters than the split scenes, so you can join clips together on the timeline. Each joined clip being a main menu item, which can be enabled to navigate to a sub-menu. Go to Add/edit the chapter points for the sub-menu, MF3 automatically sets menu items for each joined video, but you can remove them and add others as you want with one exception - the first clip is always on the menu.

I hope I explained this good enough. It sounds much more complicated than it actually is.

Yes. Just follow Merlin's suggestion above. I had MovieFactory 2 SE and I did it numerous times. I never split the videos into scenes. I just insert the chapter points wherever I want them. It's very easy.

I will try it again but my memory was that this added subchapters - not on the Main Menu screen.

It you want all the chapters to show up on the main menu
which many people like.

1 - Click on Advanced.
2 - Uncheck "Add Title Menu"
3 - Check "Create Chapter Menu" (should be checked off by default).

==============================================
Some Tips:
Motion Menus are always checked on by default.
To change the default to "OFF" change the setting in the following file:

*********************************
SET MOTION MENUS TO DEFAULT OFF
*********************************
FILE -> DVDMFEnc.ini
[DMF_ENC] <section>
MotionMenuCheck=1 (default, change to 0)

***********************************************
SHOW "DROPPED FRAMES COUNTER WHEN CAPTURING
***********************************************
FILE -> DVDMFCap.ini
[CAPTURE_SETTING] <section>
ShowCaptureInfo=0 (default, change to 1)
example: ShowCaptureInfo=1
AutoDropBitRate=1 (your choice)
ForceToUsePreviewMode=1
==============================================

Always BACKUP files before editing them.
Another tip: Don't edit mpeg files.

Hope this helps,

In reference to MF4 changing the setting for the motion menu
has no effect. This works for MF3 but on my system not for MF4.

Advanced Tab

I believe the tab mentioned can be found in the menu creation area, not in the capture area.

Yes, plasma. It's in the Setup Menu step. :)
