MF6+ will not install

Post by ruggy1 »

As a long time user of Ulead I was surprised that the trial version of MF6+ crashed during install. I have a clean, large XP environment - all went well until Windows Media format 9 was installed, then AVControlSDK tried to install and I got "A fatal error has occurred whilst installing". Cleaned everything up , started again, same result - anyone know what is going on???
Thanks
MF2, MF3, MF4, MF5, VS7, VS10+, VS12, Nero Vision Express. Ricoh and Sony 16x DVD recorder, Sony HC5 High def camera. Also Canopus ADVC110 for AV/DV input through firewire

Try the following in this order.

1. Run the installation program again and select the repair option.
2. Try a clean re-installation
3. Troubleshooting your computer

It was installing AVcontrolSDK and had the "A Fatal Error Has Occurred While Installing" error. Tried 3x same thing. I was looking forward to using this. Anyone want to buy my copy??

My PC gave me the same error. See on http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=21060 at the end of page 1. I think the installation program is corrupt.
I have decided to change to another program, Avid Liquid. But it is a little costier :(
BTW MediaStudio Pro 8 works great, but without the possibility to burn to DVD it is useless for me.

I did some testing and after you unpack the MF6 download into a new installation directory (which you can burn to a CD to install along with a copy of your serial number) there is a "Utilities" directory. The script files for installation appears to install all these programs listed under the utilities Directory.

The AVControlSDK is used for capturing, if not installed I couldn't capture either HDV nor DV mode.

MF6 Installation Aborts at AVControlSDK install

Post by grahambooth »

I have tried installing and downloading this many times without success - get the helpful 'a fatal error has occured during installation' message. I can run all the utility installations with no problem using the unpacked utility setup files including AVControlSDK.
Anyone know what the install does after AVControlSDK is installed ?
Any ideas are most appreciated since I get no reply from the umpteen emails I have sent Ulead support.

Use the following tool for DVD mastering (it helped me and is VERY powerfull):  DVDlab DVD authoring tool, available at http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/. Better quality for your money and it will install and work without a problem.

BTW A professional advised me to skip the Ulead products and use Canopus Edius......

grahambooth,
If you could get all the utilities to install by themselves then maybe this will work:
Unpack the distro files into the separate directory.
Remove the Utilities Directory (you installed them already).
Then try installing.
Most of the reported failures to install have seem to come right after the utilities installation.

etech6355,
Thanks for your suggestion - I tried it out but the installation process bypassed the installation of the utilities after installing moviefactory and went straight to fatal error.
Maybe I should just put this down to rubbish software and take pieterAL's suggestion and buy dvdlab instead

Too bad it won't install. You need to have SP2 installed, most computers do. Computers have become to complex.
Dvd lab appears to be more expensive (there are a few versions of this software). I don't think it works for High Definition video, camcorders or HD-DVD's. Seems only to work with DVD's only.

VideoStudio 11+ AVControlSDK Error

Post by bigjim2k »

I Just got VideoStudo 11+ and while it was installing AVControlSDK , I got the "A fatal error has occurred whilst installing" error.

I had installed VideoStudo 10 back a month ago without issue. Whats the deal. Has Ulead gone down hill?

Don't have this problem myself, but try this for MF and V11+ :
Svuppe wrote:.... My suspicion has been around the installation of AVControlSDK. So I poked around a bit in the now unpacked files, and in Info.ini found an entry called AVControlSDK=1. I changed that to 0, and tried yet another install. And to my big surprise it got all the way through. After that, I installed AVControlSDK by manually running Utilities\AVControlSDK\AVControl.exe

And now VS11+ trial works on my machine.

Thanks Iazael - I tried that but no go - it does look like AVControlSDK is installing OK and its the next thing to be installed thats causing the problem.
After getting no reply from umpteen emails sent to ulead support desk I phoned their help desk and the guy told me there was no fix for this problem and they were working on it. - I have asked them for a refund but I'm not holding my breath - I guess I've lost the cash.

I don't have MF6, but had problems with AVControlSDK in MF5+. Testing the same installation on another PC did not run into the problems I had.

As already mentioned in this thread, removing the Utilities (or setting the ini value to 0) before running the setup will prevent these items from being installed. Note that the AVControlSDK is used by MF for capture, so MF capture will not work without it. I didn't need MF capture because I have dedicated software for this.

Anyway, there is more you can try not installing to see if it is the reason for conflicts in your pc. In the MF5+ unpacked installation folder there were some update services that phone home, and other software. See my post in this thread how I trimmed the installation media before installing. I also added short comments on why I disabled them:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... controlsdk

Maybe it will help, but consumer software should not require such tweaking to install properly. Even worse, you need advanced knowledge to uninstall some of the stuff that is added to your system without asking. When you uninstall the MF5+ product, some of this stuff remains installed and is not shown in the Add/remove Programs list. This is rude.

Fatal Error while Installing Moviefactory 6 plus

Post by GemPks »

While installing Moviefactory 6 plus (Upgrade CD) it comes up with an error box - Setup - A fatal error has occurred while installing. This happens Shortly after the AVControlSDK installs. There is no entry in the control panel add/ remove, no menu items in the start menu or desk top icons.

:oops: :( I did a clean re-install as per the knowledge base. Still no success. I thought I found the problem when I checked the event viewer in Administrative Tools. There was a error message logged (MSI154e.log) under applications as follows;

A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.
=== Logging stopped: 5/13/2007 17:28:06 ===

I uninstalled QuickTime and tried again. No success. Still got the same windows error message but there was no error at the event viewer. The installer has re-installed QuickTime.

I saved the MovieFactory 6 Plus CD to my hard drive and tried several re-installs from there. Still no success.

I called Corel support services as and I spoke with a teck. He had me run msconfig and do a selective startup, uncheck load startup items, apply and reboot. We ran the MovieFactory 6 plus installation and it failed again at the same place.

Next we downloaded Msicuu2.exe, installed it, ran it (Windows Install Clean Up), found the entry for Ulead MovieFactory 6 and removed it. Rebooted the computer and ran the MovieFactory 6 plus install. It failed again at the same point.

I ran msconfig again and selected selective Startup. I unchecked Load Startup Items, unchecked Process System.INI file, unchecked Process WIN.INI file, clicked on the services tab, checked Hide All Microsoft Services, and unchecked all the services remaining in the box. Clicked apply and restarted the computer. Ran the moviefactory 6 plus installation again and it failed at the same point again.

I was reading through this Web Board and found this thread. I copied the MovieFactory 6+ CD to the hard drive, located "info.ini" found an entry called AVControlSDK=1, changed it to 0 and tried the install from the hard disk copy. It didn't work. I still get the same error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
