Hello, I am considering buying ULEAD Visual Studio 10 and downloaded the trial version (ULEAD visual studio 10 plus). I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit installed on my machine, and i Have a Sony HDR-HC1.
Repro steps:
- Start Ulead Visual Studio 10 (run as admin)
- Under tools-Select device control, choose HDV
- Click on capture tab
Result:
An error message appears: "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected"
Other Notes:
- I can use Windows Movie Maker fine, and my camcorder is detected.
- I can see the source filter in GraphEdt (Sony HDR-HC1), I can use that filter to control the camcorder
So my device is recognized by Windows.
Is Visual Studio 10 compatible with HDV and Vista 64 bits ?
Thanks
Can't capture HDV with Vista Ultimate 64 and Sony HDR-HC1

I have the same problem as you, but I have a Sony HC3 camcorder. Apparently Microsoft did not ship firewire drivers for video input (sometimes called OHCI drivers) in Vista. I don't know why this is the case, these drivers were standard equipment in XP.
I am actually wondering if the XP drivers will work on Vista ...
Oops in hindsight my problem is not the same as yours .... Vista does not even recognize my camera ... even in Windows Movie Maker .. it just appears that the drivers are not there for the 1394 port.

Yes it is, with the Vista Patch.. However according to Ulead's website...ckica wrote:Is Visual Studio 10 compatible with HDV and Vista 64 bits ?
So the Un-activated ie; TBYB that has not been purchased, the patch will not install, so it probably will not work properly..NOTEs:
* Windows Vista and the Windows logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries
* This Update Pack is for Ulead® VideoStudio® 10/10 Plus (BOX, ESD, UPG, and activated TBYB) version.
* This Update Pack cannot be uninstalled.
* Since Video for Windows (VFW) is not supported in Vista, VFW codecs such as Indeo, Cinepak are not supported in Vista. The video content files provided by VideoStudio will now be encoded using .WMV instead of Indeo codecs.
* Some 3D transition effects that won¡¦t be supported on Vista are removed from current release, including: Flying Board, Flying Cube, Flying Flip, Flying Fold, and Folding Box. Some templates under "Album", "Flash Light" and "Mask" transition effect are also not supported.
* WDM devices are not supported by Vista. Thus, not supported by VideoStudio.
* WMV and MPEG 4 format CAPTURE is not supported.
* MOV and MPEG 4 formats are not supported in this version.
* WinDVD 7, PocketDV show, and Cool3D are not supported.
Now I'm not familiar with Vista, but if it has a Compatibilty feature, that would allow you to run it as XP then you might try that.
Read all the above notes, there are several formats that are no longer supported too, thanks to Vista..

Because your running Vista and the trial version of VS (can't apply the vista patch) I would download this program and give it a shot, it says support for Vista.
Vista, the full release supports these HDV cams.

I don't remember if hdsplit captures in the transport stream or the program stream format. If the captured file has a .m2t extension is probably transport stream.
To use the .m2t files with VS10 trial you insert them using the VS insert video dialog boxes, navigate to the .m2t file, highlight it, click OK. VS will prompt you to convert to editable format (program stream) answer yes and VS will make a copy of the video in program stream format.
MF6+ trial may work better than VS10+ for capturing your videos, MF6+ runs on Vista.
VS11+ is supposed to be released in a few months.
Note: Just read the docs again. The program HDSplit captures in transport stream, the actual format on the tape. I also capture in the transport stream format, depends on what program I'm using.

I had vista 64bit ultim, running on my system since release, nothing worked cam, printer, games etc. Now the last straw was that I'm not being able to capture video from Canon HV10, tried every thing MF6, Vs 10, Vega, MF5 nothing but the moviemaker that came with vista which is loosing some quality. but anyways i took out vista and put on my old xp pro, every thing works like a charm.
