It is not just the RAM which PI refers to as memory. PI 11 was very bad in utilising memory, I had to shut it down and restart after every second action I took on a large (8MP) image.
What are your settings for virtual memory in PI preferences? Do you have the "Auto Save" option selected? That was the first one I disabled. I rather save manually under alternating names.

Have you installed the Vista Update patch?

Applying update pacth
yes i have applied the patch last week. thanks for your replies. appreciate it. 1 gig of memory should be more than enough to run vista and photoimpact. i run adobe photoshop elements with no problems and it takes much more memory than PI.

Sad to say but this is a Ulead PhotoImpact problem.
I have exhausted just about everything to try combat this problem, all to no avail. PhotoImpact is badly programmed and has a memory reading problem.
Nine times out of ten it's not your PC........ believe me been there done that. One day, Ulead PhotoImpact designers/programmers MAY get this program to work correctly........ I won't hold my breath.
Sorry if I sound a bit cynical, but the problems with PI began with the launch of version 10... before that PI was a very stable program. You only have to read all the posts around the net to see what people have had to endure after buying 10, 11 and now 12. The list of problems with PI are numerous.

I've run into the same problem.
First post. My name is Russell Holmes, and I have been using PhotoImpact since version 6.
I hadn't run into the problem until version 12. I thought it was the machine at first but work swapped out my machine with upgraded memory. (4G RAM now)
I can open a new image, type in four characters individually (or draw in four small circles for that matter). I can arrange them anyway I see fit until I group 2 and try to align them with the other two. The New machine is having the same problem. PI10 does not. I have a friend that is running 8G RAM and it having the same issue. PI can be the only program running.
I hope this is corrected in the next version.
BTW, I downloaded and installed the latest update and it made no difference.
