Unable to import video

Post by MrLevodevo »

I've been using VideoStudio for a while now and its worked great, but today it started acting up. Whenever I open up a folder that has about 250+ video clips, it closes the program. I've been importing videos from that folder into VideoStudio for months and this is the first time I've experienced a problem. I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas?

250+ video clips 8) how much free space on the drive where the temp and preview files live? When you open a project, VS is linking back to the files contained in the project. Your system might be running out of puff. :?

Have a read of this, and come back with some detail in order to get a more accurate assessment. http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8959

Do you mean like how much free space on C Drive where all the vids are? About 15 GB

Nature of the problem - Already done in first post

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?) - The videos are all sorts of different sizes and types. AVI, WMV, MPEG, MP4, etc.

What devices are involved and their mode of connection? - I'm not sure what to put here :S

Project Settings - " "

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD) - file

PAL or NTSC - NTSC

Error Codes (if any) - None

Is that what you wanted me to do?

Steve, I've noticed similar answers in a few recent posts. Maybe the "Read This First" post needs directions on how to determine the answers to these questions.

OK, I filled it out as best I could. I was unable to find the sound card, but I think I got everything else.

EDIT - I can't play AVI files anymore..media player closes when I try to. A lot of programs are randomly closing on me. Could it be that I need more memory?

You could stand to use more RAM, however it is possible to work with just 512 Meg. What would help is if you shutdown ALL unnecessary background applications. You might want to review Steve's tutorial on Creating a Video Editing Profile.

One thing that is critically important is the amount of free space you have to work with. Since you don't have an abundance of RAM, VS will undoubtedly be using your Virtual Memory or Page File, which is located on your HDD.

Then you need to keep your HDD in the best order possible, keeping it defragmented, so during the processes with video editing, it does not have to be seeking all over the place, trying to find the bits and pieces it needs.

Try going through your system (Programs) and find ones that you haven't used in months. If you have the install discs or at least the install files downloaded from the internet, uninstall them to free up space.

Keep in mind that capturing to DV (avi) requires 13 gig per hour of video to store it. Now add another 13 gig for the temp files while editing and then burning. So for every hour of DV you need at least 26 gig of free space.

using movies from Digital Camera Canon S400 w/Moviefactory 4

I'm using the disc creator, and have created a slideshow and also a video section using a number of selected clips from my digital camera.

When I try to burn, I get an error half way through, saying that the Mpeg has no audio data and is no compatible with this program.

Question #1 - I'm assuming the problem are the video files?
Question #2 - How can I convert these files into compatible ones?
Question #3 - How can I see what is and isn't compatible with MF programs prior to purchasing it?

Thanks for your time.
